Ah, if only there were room for a c-clamp in there... As was, found that a pair of channel-lock pliers at max setting, could grab one end of the old pad and the end of the caliper, and with a gentle squeeze compressed two of the damn things nicely. For the third, had to stick the old pad back in, put a 'driver through the retaining pin hold and gently twist one way, then the other, and that got that one.

Yea...I was being a bit tongue in cheek. It's a pain in the butt on my bike too.
The funny thing is that compressing the pistons is the hardest part of the whole evolution. Actually changing the pads only takes a few minutes.
Oh yeah; not counting that, maybe ten minutes or so
That's because nothing is difficult for the person who need not do it.
The worst managers know nothing of which they manage and think that delegation renders tasks trivially easy.
