So here is a bit more to go with. For those budding chemists who like to go waaay out in the weeds. Get a copy of the book "Foxfire 5". In it, you will find a section on making your own potassium nitrate. (Not to be confused with Jake's "illudium phosdex" in his videos. Short version, because I'm too lazy to go dig my copy out of a dusty box:
--Acquire a suitable quantity of chicken poop. --Soak in water for many days. --While poop is soaking, build a long narrow trough with a drain at one end. Book suggests concrete. I would suggest a length of 12-inch diameter PVC cut length wise. --Coat the bottom of the trough with stove ashes. --Drain the poop, saving the liquid. (Might want to wear a gas mask). --Pour liquid from poop into trough, letting run over the ashes to the drain at the opposite end. A chemical exchange will take place. --Let liquid drain through a fine mesh screen (preferably SS) and save in a clear container for observation. Liquid in now saturated with KNO3, which will crystalize out.
