Is anyone else as sick of 'Download our App!' as I am?

'It's more convenient to shop on the app!  It's better to check your medical record on the app!  It's better(for us, but we won't say that) if you confirm your appointment on the app!' and so bloody on.

Oh yes, I'd just love to voluntarily install your spyware, because you're ALL just so trustworthy!

Bleah.  Bullshit.

That and the fact you have to have a cell phone that they can send a code to when you login.

yes. I get around it, most of the time, by having configuring firefox to request the desktop site. If that doesn't work, i just wait until using my computer before trying again.

as a form of multi-factor-authentication, SMS is a terrible choice.

Several years back my employer went to an 'app' based vacation request system. Just download the app. I told them (truthfully at the time) that I did not HAVE a smartphone, and i most decidedly had zero intentions of getting one. They wound up having to set up a portal on the desktop computer in my area.
Earlier this year, my employer switched to a new bio-metric (fingerprint) time clock. Unlike everyone else I actually READ the TOS you had to agree to in order to input your print. Said TOS (in legalese) stated the by agreeing, you granted unlimited rights to your bio-info, and that they could do WHATEVER they wanted with it.
I declined. HR was not pleased. I stated that if they would provide a legally binding document that protected my bio-privacy, then I would accede.
They did not. They threatened. I stood my ground. I'm not going to surrender MY privacy for THEIR convenience.
In the end, a workaround was found; I had to manually log in via the vacation request/time sheet portal on my (recently supplied company) tablet. Input employee number, and password, select job number/task, hit enter; Easy-Peasy.
That worked without issue until last Monday when a windows update happened over the weekend. Suddenly the portal wanted to 'verify' who I was by either sending me a text, E-mail, or phone call.
No.
There is ZERO reason for a third party time sheet software program to have
personal meta-data about me outside of my work functions: clocking in and out does not qualify. After three days, IT finally bypassed that function, and things are now back to normal(ish).
