And yes, Trump & Co. need to ignore some things, and not get distracted by bullshit. Whatever your opinion on transsexuals, I think allowing this to start a nose-under-the-tent of 'Someone with a mental problem should be banned from having guns' is a really bad idea.

I think the big problem starts with school 'counselors' and 'teachers' who get involved in playing gender games with little kids, and start pushing some to 'transition'. Take those idiots out of the equation and a LOT of the difficulties would disappear. Especially problematic is politicians who pass laws that "If you don't support your kid in this, you're an abuser and should have your kid taken away. In THEIR case, hanging sounds like a good idea. At the least, tar & feathers.

People who are mentally ill, under the care of a psychiatrist, and unstable are not allowed to purchase firearms in most States. If you ever end up involuntarily committed (adjudicated mentally ill) you go on the "no sale" list.
This seems to be a tempest in a teapot. Look at Form 4473 question 21, and see all the ways we already currently limit the right to purchase firearms.
Add in the current crop of state Red Flag laws, and the right to possess is arbitrary.
Form 4473 question 21g already makes the distinction you fret over. And given the types of drugs most transgenders are taking, question 21f could easily be made to apply.
