guys, the areas the Russians want are populated by majority ethnic Russians who speak Russian and think of themselves as Russian. That is why there is a separatist movement in Ukraine-- the Russia-Ukraine boundaries were set in the 1950s administratively, not along old boundaries or ethnic lines.
Things existed peacefully until 2014 when Obama had the CIA start a coup in Ukraine and overthrow the elected leadership for a US friendly one. So Russia backed a separatist movement and took over Crimea and their long held Black Sea port.
This is just another Obama mess that hasn't been cleaned up yet.

Another student of history I see. I think the PTB were hoping we'd forget that this was another fine mess created by Obama. Along with Syria and the Muslim migrant crises in Europe.
I've been told that Ukraine language is almost indistinguishable from Russian. As in less difference than between Deep South and Boston Back Bay American English.
