So the only way the cops can comply with this is, facing a mob of rioters, using sticks and firearms. Which won't happen. Which means the Mayor and Council say "Screw your life and property, we side with the rioters. But don't you dare call them that, they're 'peaceful protesters' even when they're burning your building down."

I'm not sure what her total view regarding politics, but I have to admit this black gal has more sense than many of what passes for men in charge in some of these cities. She is certainly way ahead of the white female shitlib mayor of Seattle.
For now a Judge has told Seattle to shove it and that this "law" will not go into effect. We/ they will have to see what comes from mediation in the near future. I hold out no hope, they are screwed.
That means the gloves are off. When property owners start shooting, there won't be any police around to intercede.
Note to property owners: treat anyone with a camera as a combatant. They are in on it too. Collect all cell phones during your cleanup of the event and burn them.

A Federal judge has put a (temporary) hold on this order going into effect. So for now, Seattlites have dodged a bullet.
Fortunately, it seems like a federal judge has issued an injunction for now, although since this is the same Ninth Circuit of Hell that overruled the injunction of Commiefornia's blatantly illegal ammo-registration less than a day after it was issued, it's a suckers bet on how long it lasts for.
Maybe the entire police force should quit and let the Mayor and City Council take over.
The letter from the police chief is one of two things, a political ploy for more power or an admission that he's in over his head and should resign. Even in third world shitholes, they use rubber bullets, tear gas and water cannon.
OTOH, If the police resorted to lethal weapons, they could just swap out (en masse) barrels & slides who could say which officer's gun shot which rioter. Well, that and they'd all have to fire off a couple rounds to have GSR on everyone.
