"We're/Someone's all going to DIE!!" Etc.

A massive Italian volcano is at a “critical stage” in the build-up to a devastating eruption, scientists have warned.

They say the Phlegraean Fields supervolcano, known in its native Italy as Campi Flegrei, could blow sooner than predicted.
Yes, this would be bad.  There's also that, since an Italian court decided a couple of years ago that scientists could be liable for not predicting earthquakes(which nobody can), the authorities might be a bit over-enthusiastic about warning people.

Will it kill all the wild boars? Is that good or bad? What does PETA say?
Discuss.

Nice. Well, there are eruptions and eruptions, and in fact most of the eruptions by that type of volcanoes aren't that devastating except locally, but a full scale one... Bye bye Italy, or at least southern Italy, as well as several coastal areas since a tsunami is guaranteed (almost half of the caldera is under the bay of Naples). And not nice for the southern Europe. Might solve that boar problem. And might solve the immigration problem too, btw. They'd be busy running in the other direction for a while. As for the rest of the world - cold summers and gorgeous sunsets for a few years. Campi Flegrei is a "supervolcano", but it's a rather small version of those, so unless those cold years would trigger the next glaciation period it should not be that big a problem locally, at least not when talking about any end-of-the-world-as-we-know-it version.

There you go, Marja, injecting calm thought into a hair-on-fire story.

Considering the 'live through things' ability of pigs, especially wild ones, I doubt it. And yeah, there's a conundrum for them: the volcano is natural, and might kill a bunch of people, but it'll also kill a lot of animals.

'Course, considering PETA, they'd probably consider it a good trade-off(as long as it's not them getting killed).
