I say they're idiots because they apparently never bothered to find out what the Imperial Japanese Army and Navy had been up to, and planned to do. Or they're not just idiots, they're fucking morons who don't care.
If you have any question of why this pisses me off, go look up the Rape of Nanking. And the various massacres of US and British and Australian wounded, doctors, and nurses. Then go look up Unit 731.
You might learn something.

Read the book Fly Boys. You will learn what the Japanese did to prisoners that were captured during WWII. It was not good at all.
The two bombs the US dropped were the only thing we could use that would convince the the Japanese that the US was NOT fucking around.
Heltau
They also don't think about what we were planning to do until the A-bombs made it unnecessary: Burn their cities, cripple their transportation network, invade in August or September, and fight millions of death-before-surrender fanatics across the fields in harvest season. In an island that wasn't quite feeding its people before, we were about to grossly foul up the food supply, while driving the population into improvised housing in the mountains in winter time. By spring, not only would nearly all of the millions of Japanese military been dead, but more than half of the civilians. But if the Japanese would not surrender - and they never had in any of the smaller islands we had taken from them by overwhelming force - this was the only way to bring the war to an end. (And the general opinion was that none of them deserved to live.)
Instead, we destroyed two small cities and all the people in them. That was nothing that hadn't been often done before, or worse, using hundreds of B-29's loaded with incendiary and high explosive bombs. Our bombing had probably been killing more Japanese every week for months, but we showed that now ONE airplane could wipe out a city and the Japanese had no defense. That persuaded their high command to do the unthinkable for their culture, and surrender.
Ah, but do you really believe the lie? War is ugly no doubt. Atrocities on all sides. Who can forget Operation Keehaul where Eisenhauer sent Russian soldiers to their deaths? The unnecessary bombing of Dresden.
If WWII was such a great war for freedom and democracy, why did the the (((communist))) end up with half of Europe? Does it matter what Japan did? The Chinese communists killed millions more than the Japanese.
General Patton was probably killed for some his opinions.
I honor the veterans that served, but we were conned into WW2 by the communist FDR. I'm not really convinced I've been told the truth. I had two uncles that served in Europe in support roles.
"If the surrender by the Japanese had been accepted between May and the end of July of 1945 and the Emperor had been left in place, as in fact he was after the bombing, this would have kept Russia out of the war. Russia agreed at Yalta to come into the Japanese war three months after Germany surrendered. In fact, Germany surrendered on May 8, 1945 and Russia announced on August 8, (exactly three months thereafter) that it was abandoning its neutrality policy with Japan and entering the war. Russia's entry into the war for six days allowed them to gain tremendous power and influence in China, Korea, and other key areas of Asia. The Japanese were deathly afraid of Communism and if the Potsdam Proclamation had indicated that America would accept the conditional surrender allowing the Emperor to remain in place and informed the Japanese that Russia would enter the war if they did not surrender, then this would surely have assured a quick Japanese surrender."
