last time I went to a bar/club on that day, I said "I'm not doing this again."
Go to a friend's place, sure. Restaurant(that doesn't involve a band), yep. Anyplace with lots of "Join us for St. Paddy's Day!" stuff and promising live music, HELL no. The booze is a lot cheaper at home if I wish to drink, and I can actually hear things.

I always call it amateurs weekend. Look, I have beer with lunch all the time. If the only time you get drink at 11am is on St Paddys Day, just stop. Leave it to the pros.
CONTRARY to the use of the term "St. Paddy's" ,to make note of the day, well, that is a bastardization and insult to Saint Patrick. Read The Confession of Saint Patrick, ( you can find it easily enough on line )
and see what he had to say in his deathbed testament. He did NOT recommend everyone should get sloppy drunk and be stupid. Just Sayin'.
I've been told that in Ireland it's a much more restrained, and much less drunk, thing.
I haven't read that, I have read a bit about him over time, and no, I don't think he'd endorse that.
So, I stay at home and drink at McCann's Pub. I'll have a sip or two of some Jameson and listen to Irish music of my liking, Chieftan's, Clancy Bros & Tommy Maken or some Old Dubliners with Luke Kelly. and then walk down the hall to bed.
If you want to celebrate St. Patrick go the Mass instead of a bar.
