what else would you expect?
Authorities in the country are planning almost 200 “collection events” over the next three months. And one police official, Mike Clement, deputy
commissioner of national operations for the New Zealand police, told the
newspaper, “We urge people to stay calm…We acknowledge that you’re a
law-abiding citizen and through no fault of your own you know find
yourself in possession of firearms that are now illegal.”
He reminded the newspaper that there is an “amnesty period,” so there
will be no excuse for retaining the now-contraband firearms.
Except for, say, being an honest citizen who's done now harm but it being treated like a criminal who just hasn't criminaled yet.
Or the possibility of needing it for one of the purposes of arms: fighting tyrants.
