Wondered about this myself; or is cultural appropriation only bad

when it goes in one direction?
Half-Pakistani in descent, I feel a personal sense of guilt at how non-western countries have unapologetically oppressed their fellow nations. I’ve therefore taken it upon myself to compile a list of all the things the world has culturally appropriated from the west, in hope that this injustice might one day be corrected.

Why a peaceful majority may not matter.

Cultural appropriation is the American way. We appropriate everything good from the cultures that flow toward us. Mexican, Indian, Irish, African, Italian, Thai, Vietnamese, you name it we've appropriated it. That's what we do.

Cultural appropriation is the American Way. Tell the nay-sayers to get over it.

My usual response is 'Piss off', but your way is a lot more polite

I always thought imitation was the sincerest form of flattery.

I guess not.

But I do have to wonder, how is a bunch of black and latino rappers telling the story of Alexander Hamilton on the stage not cultural appropriation?

How is an all black cast performing the Wizard of Oz live on TV not cultural appropriation?

Personally, I have no problem with either of those things. In fact I find it encouraging that a latino playwright and black and latino actors can find a "dead white guy" inspiring enough to want to perform a musical about his life.

But if cultural appropriation is bad for some, why isn't it bad for all?

Because you're a RACIST!!!

Which seems to be the standard leftist response to damn near everything. But it only goes in one direction.
