From the manner in which the legislation was negotiated in secret, to the fashion in which it was brought to the Senate floor for vote, there was nothing about the process that was transparent or that took into consideration what cannot be disputed that law-abiding gun owners are not and have not been the source of criminal activity.

Pointed out- repeatedly- it HAS been tried, and it hasn't worked.  Didn't matter "We have to do something!"  Apparently even if we know it won't work.
