Daryl Fisher wants to be sheriff of Buncombe County North Carolina,

but made the mistake of telling people what he really thinks.
Daryl Fisher: Any weapon that is designed for use by the military I think we should ban. You’ve heard people say you have to pry my gun from my cold dead hands. (shrugs) OK. 

You could say the reaction has been, well, bad.

Now he says "It was a joke!"(Bookface link)  Which also doesn't go over well.  Probably because, among all the other words, are these two lines:
I took this opportunity to relay proposals on what I believe to be sensible gun legislation.
and
Proposing sensible gun legislation is only one of my values and beliefs.
 So, let's consider those.  He thinks 'designed for use by the military' means 'Ban it!'  So, just how many revolvers and semi-auto pistols, and how many single-shot, bolt-action, and semi-auto rifles that would include?  Or would he say "Oh, I don't mean THOSE, only the EBRs the peasants should not have!" ?

And he considers that 'sensible gun legislation'... Buncombe County, you elect this clown and you deserve everything that'll happen to you.
