About that knee thing,

I'm not really worried about it; the tech has advanced a lot over time, to the point that it's an overnight stay in the hospital*.  It's the recovery time, and the PT, and then doing it all again for the other knee.  That's going to be a pain.

At least they should last about 20 years(average according to the orthopedist), and I can wait till the weather isn't alternately some what nice and bloody freezing.

*No, being in there isn't exactly thrilling, but it's only one night

The science behind arthroplasty has improved tremendously over the decades.
The two biggest risks from the procedure is clotting which can lead to pulmonary embolism or stroke....which can be fatal and infection. It's germ warfare out there and the germs are winning. Antibiotics that used to insure post op safety are fast becoming ineffective. The best defense is having the procedure done in a proper hospital, not some outpatient surgery center that is on a schedule so the operating rooms get turned around between patients without adequate cleaning. Infection rates from hospitalizations get scrutinized. Not so much for free standing surgery centers.

When my did her's, the doc suggested she do both at the same time, said if she did the first, she wouldn't do the second. He said rehab for 2 is almost the same as rehab for 1. She did them both and said he was right, the pain was that bad.
Anyhow good luck and this is not medical knowledge

The PT sucks, but darned if it doesn't make the recovery quicker while feeling a whole mess like torture.

Had one done. Push the initial recovery exercises and PT hard. It is worth it and you will recover quicker. Push through the discomfort. More discomfort than pain (took pain pills one day). I was off the cane in 2 months.
