The link you provided needs to have the characters removed after "1707".
The New Yorker had an excellent article about the Cascadia earthquake zone just a year ago, and it told the story about the Japanese seismologists. I'm in the PNW myself, so this is of more than passing interest. Let me recommend this article to your readers as well (apologies if you have linked it before):
