"You DO know who invented that,

don't you?
After 94 years of continuous service, the oldest-serving known veteran in the U.S. military is stepping away from the front lines.

Browning M2 machine gun #324 is finally retiring:
Roughly 94 years after the first production run of M2 machine guns came off the assembly line, the 324th weapon produced made it to Anniston Army Depot for overhaul and upgrade.
In more than 90 years of existence, the receiver with serial number 324 has never been overhauled.
JMB made good stuff.

Higher Education, modern version, results thereof:
When asked about complaints from professors that universities are becoming “places of censor and prohibition,” Smith-Lezama said people are using the First Amendment to create a “hostile and unsafe learning environment.”

“I personally am tired of hearing that First Amendment rights protect students when they are creating a hostile and unsafe learning environment for myself and for other students here,” Smith-Lezama said. “I think that it’s important for us to create that distinction and create a space where we can all learn from one another and start to create a place of healing rather than a place where we are experiencing a lot of hate like we have in the past.”
Bet her definition of 'hate' is "People saying things I don't like, and not agreeing with me."  Wonder how she'll feel when someone uses her own crap to shut her up?

So these people hate civil rights and people of the wrong color.  And they're professors.
“As professors, we don’t see classroom carry to be about our own personal security,” the manifesto says early on. “We will most likely never be shot in our offices or classrooms, even if we were to piss off some white male students with sacrilegious ideas about race, empire, evolution, or god.”

Instead, Canizares-Esguerra and Timmons explicitly frame the conflict as a racial one, with supporters of gun rights cast as white racial oppressors who are the heirs of slavery, Jim Crow, and other acts of “settler colonialism.”
You really need to read it all; the level of stupid is just amazing, as is some of their use of language:
“When a student brings a gun into our individual first -amendment [sic] right to control the bond of trust and community that is constitutionally under our care,” they say. “Yes, this is a classroom he has privileged his individual right over our right to establish and control the bond of trust and community in the classroom necessary to teach.
And, by the way, just how much 'bond of trust and community' can you have with an openly racist professor?

The hell nobody wants to take your guns.

Mizzou has turned into a hobo clusterfuck. All the double-plus-ungood-gobblegook has turned into a dialogue where words mean nothing. Every student and faculty member there should be required to carry a copy of Webster's Collegiate Dictionary there, everywhere, all the time, so they'll know what words mean.

The Browning M2 was my favorite machine gun when I was allowed to play with such things. As a tank commander, it was my personal weapon and I could do virtually all of the routine maintenance while it was still mounted in the cupola.

God, I loved that machine gun.
