Reminds me somewhat of daughter in high school. Had a teacher who decided to get into 'should you hurt people, even in self-defense' argument for some reason and asked "If you caught someone coming in through your window, and they have a knife, could/should you shoot them?"
Other kids:
"No!"
"I don't think so."
Daughter: "How far away is he?"
"What? Why?"
Short lecture on Tueller drill and the threat of someone with a knife at close ranges.
"?"
That teacher never did know what to make of her.
