To Siim Kallas and the rest of the fascists at the EU:

Screw you, you miserable little statists.
Top of the EU's list to cut climate change emissions is a target of "zero" for the number of petrol and diesel-driven cars and lorries in the EU's future cities.

Siim Kallas, the EU transport commission, insisted that Brussels directives and new taxation of fuel would be used to force people out of their cars and onto "alternative" means of transport.

"That means no more conventionally fuelled cars in our city centres," he said. "Action will follow, legislation, real action to change behaviour."
Because the peasants won't simply tug their forelock and do what their betters tell them to, the EU lords will force them to.

Remember what has been pointed out many times, The power to tax is the power to destroy. I'll add and the power to enslave.

only the rich will have the means to pay for private conveyance. Just like with a carriage and team. To expensive for the serfs. They will have to travel like cattle again.

Seems the French in 1791 did not finish the job of liquidating the elite.

Time to grease up the Guillotine...

I'm going to love seeing this ban in place just long enough for them to realize that food and other goods are usually trucked in, and garbage is usually trucked out. They're gonna starve in the smelly wilderness that is their city.

Yeah, that will be soo good for some low wage earners, like paper carriers and some cleaners who work either very late or very early - you can't always use a bike or walk when the buses don't run (and the buses don't run everywhere even when they do run), and during the night driving is also safer, at least for a woman. And then there are those jobs where you need your car to do the job... most times there do-gooders do seem to plan their environmentally safe solutions while thinking only in terms of those people who earn a way better than average wage. Poor people use cars too, and some may actually even really need that car in order to earn their money.

I'm sure they're planning on monorails or something to deliver supplies. Or maybe eco-friendly horse-drawn wains that'll also leave fertilizer to pile up and dry in the streets.

Marja, somehow I don't think the actual 'make a living' problems of the commoners actually mean too much to these people.
