Rep. Ted Lieu would love to control our speech,

and admits the 1st Amendment stops him.  And then, when called on it, says this:
I would love to regulate your speech, but thank goodness the First Amendment prevents me, @POTUS, and Republicans from doing so.

Get it? I'm defending the First Amendment.

And actually thinks that makes it all good...

The only proper response(that doesn't involve a helicopter):

I, for one, welcome our new candid overlords.

I do find this an improvement over the norm. So often the usual is "I respect your rights, but here's how I'm going to trample them and maybe a halfhearted explanation as to why it's okay and not really trampling." He's both admitted his inclination towards tyranny and that he is prohibited from acting on it. That's an improvement on both counts. Now if he and his less candid brethren could remove themselves from politics, all would be well.

Comments like this from someone who took an oath to "uphold and defend" the Constitution is ample proof the Tree Of liberty is long overdue for a thorough watering.
