They don't write the laws, that's done by the people who pay them (the real money) & we're not talking about the published salary.
Nevertheless, making prima facie stupid public pronouncements with technical errors of this magnitude should be grounds for removal from elected office. Perhaps in a three-strike kind of way. Un-appealable immediate removal from office.Strike One!
