You'll notice the standard "It's for the world's own good!" noise:

Which boils down to "Ignore the damage we did and the lies, give us this power!  For the Future!"

Personally, if anything is possible, there should be a bunch of bureaucrats and control-freak politicians either hanging from lampposts or, at the least, receiving the canings they deserve.
