"We're the FBI, and we want you to store all your child's data

on this app we made, and don't worry, it's all secure!"
Sure it is.  And does it act as a backdoor to let them look at the rest of your stuff?  Just for safety, y'know.

The FBI isn't even trying to hide it anymore.
I'm so old I remember when even Democrats would have been suspicious of this.

As secure as that gun owner data base in California?

Will the FBI be changing their name to 'Stasi' soon?
Or maybe 'SS' or 'NKVD'?

Anon 6:31: No, changing the name of the FBI would ruin the left's favorite game:

1) Infiltrate a revered institution.
2) Kill and gut it.
3) Wear its hide and pretend to be the same.

They only change the name when one of their own becomes too notorious. For example, Cheka/NKVD/KGB/whatever it is now. Or when FD Roosevelt stole the label of "liberal" to disguise the fact that he and Herbert Hoover were both "progressives" with nearly identical programs, who envied Mussolini for being able to move so directly towards his goals.

Possibly the FBI management avoids investigating pedophile rings for fear it would end in a scandal that got the FBI dissolved and all of them blackballed by other agencies. That is, their SOP is _not_ to shut down a criminal operation and protect the victims. Instead, they infiltrate it and leave it running for years (if not aiding it, like with the Boston mob and hitman Whitey Bulgar, or actually leading it into crime like the Gretchen Whitmer kidnap "plot"), until finally they can wrap the whole thing in one head-line grabbing series of arrests and show trials. If an FBI investigation of a pedophile ring slipped into their SOP, several FBI supervisors and informants would be raping children and supplying children to be raped for years, and if that ever came out...
