The humane action is not to create continuing misery but to issue the correction and move on with life. I hate prisons as the worst possible solution to criminal punishment. Prison is pointless punishment in the name of "correction" . For those self-evidently deserving of death the sentence should be carried out immediately or as you recommend in this case as a punctuation to the lashes. The evolution of punishment into nothing but time as a punishment has removed the balance from justice and punishes both victim and criminal.

This is what you get when savages walk free among decent people.
Time was, rape was a death-penalty offense everywhere. We understood the gravity of the matter back then. The streets were safer, too.
