Saturday night is here again

And I'm hoping that yesterday's '20% chance of isolated storms' doesn't turn into more of yesterday("Well, they didn't cover the whole state, so they WERE isolated!")

In the meantime,

Well, that's annoying

Discovered that in Windows 10 there are a BUNCH of apps that run in the background, including Edge, without you actively turning them on.  And a bunch of them will 'share' your data without asking or you knowing.

This, by the way, is on top of the 'Here's how to keep Microsoft from spying on you' stuff that was already turned off.

Bill Gates & Co. need a boot up the ass.

"Why isn't the media giving real coverage to this?"

Three guesses.  You don't need two of them.
Even for our "We'll decide what you need to know" media, this is disgusting.

Remember that bridge collapse in Miami?

Large cracks appeared in the Florida International University pedestrian bridge just days before it collapsed, killing six.

An update from the National Transport Safety Board says their investigation has revealed significant breaks in the concrete emerged after the bridge was moved to its place above the roadway on March 10.
You've got a bunch of engineers saying "This is really bad", and some others saying "Those cracks don't necessarily mean real trouble."  I don't have the background to argue either way; I will say that cracks appearing in a main support piece are not exactly confidence-inspiring.

Ah, 'higher' education...

Political groups listed in the survey included Communist, Libertarian, Green Party, Republican, NRA, ACLU, and Democrat. To confuse professors about the true aim of the survey, Yancey also included groups such as vegetarians and single parents.

NRA members fared even worse than Republicans. Only 28.7 percent of professors indicated that Republican Party membership would damage a candidate's chance of being hired, according to Yancey’s research.
But the reason there aren't more conservatives/libertarians in higher ed is because they don't want to be there/aren't smart enough/don't care about education/etc.  Really, the leftists tell us so!

Ah, the left, aren't they entertaining?

Isn't that wonderful? If you refuse a debate with Ocasio-Cortez, you're just afraid of her. If you ask for a debate with Ocasio-Cortez, you're basically "catcalling" her. She's both a champion and a victim, simultaneously. Shapiro is harassing her by doing the very thing she says Republicans are too scared to do. She's so confident in her platform that any challenge to it is sexist.

Ain't doublethink great? Don't you just love identity politics?

Friday evening, with a threat of storms,

and a certainty of new data

I have no idea where this came from,

but there it is.  It's from a bulb, I didn't plant one, and it wasn't there before.

Maybe a squirrel stole one, buried it there, and forgot it?

In other news, it appears bees really like datura

This time of year it's either dry and hot,

or hot and wet.  Last couple of weeks it's been mixed.  Which means days with highs in the mid-80's to low 90's, which isn't bad, but with enough humidity to make it feel like you're in a swamp.

Yuck.

Tab clearing

No, it's PAST time to treat communists just like nazis.

No, it's not illegal to tell a cop you'll sue him for his actions.  And that it took an appeals court to figure this out is idiotic.

Not just a few tweets, and not 'responding to the alt-right'; she's just an asshole the left desperately wants to support.

But I'm told that calling a lot of college crap 'left-wing' just means I hate education.

Makes you wonder just what Feinstein let this guy have access to.

Not just antifa, sounds like a LOT of the leftists.

So in Berkeley, if you're a leftist, you can attempt murder and get away with it

So says this deal.

And make no mistake, it was attempted murder; you do not hit people in the head with things like that unless you're trying to kill them.

So, if you live in Berkeley: the cops won't do their jobs, the politicians will make excuses for the violent leftists, and if you're crippled or killed by them the judge will give them a really sweet plea deal to brag about.

A: One of the consequences: a lot of people have decided "Screw this, I'm not going to be beaten to crippling or death while hoping the cops will show up or the system jail the bad guy."  Which, sooner or later, will result in antifa bodies.

B: I hope the victims of this asshole sue him for everything he has or ever will have.

C: I hope people go after the university for employing him.  This is the kind of crap they do to other people for having incorrect political views, so do it to them.

Close-ups of an asteroid

A Japanese sample-return spacecraft just gave its destination asteroid a special close-up. As Hayabusa2 swept to only 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) above the surface of 162173 Ryugu, it spotted boulders, dust and surface features only a few meters or feet across. It's by far the best view of Ryugu since the spacecraft arrived there about six weeks ago.

Oleg Volk found a nice blog:

Bow vs. Musket.  I just started reading it, some interesting stuff here.

Kasich really is a shitbird

Ohio Gov. John Kasich refused to sign a bill waiving fees for active duty military and veterans who apply for a concealed handgun license in protest over a gun control impasse.

The Republican allowed SB 81 to become law without his signature on Friday, arguing that lawmakers missed the chance to enact gun control measures this session in the wake of a high-profile school shooting in Parkland, Florida.
"You won't let me ban things and violate people's rights!  I won't sign your bill!"

"Bet he's an NRA member!" lots of leftists tweeted;

not hardly.
The son of a prominent Brooklyn-based imam was training children at a New Mexico compound to commit schools shootings, prosecutors said in court documents released Wednesday.

Siraj Ibn Wahhaj, 39, was training 11 children at a compound north of Taos, New Mexico, according to The Associated Press. Authorities raided the compound Friday and arrested Wahhaj, two of his siblings and two other men during a search for Wahhaj’s son, who had been abducted from Georgia late in 2017.
Well, that's disgusting.

Also disgusting: AP spent a LOT of time not mentioning the information about the imam & Co. being involved.  And this too:
Siraj Wahhaj Sr was an unindicted co-conspirator in the 93 World Trade Center bombings. He is also Linda Sarsour's mentor.

Whoa. Had no idea that one of the men arrested in the New Mexico compound is the son of well-known NYC imam Siraj Wahhaj.
Also, appears that leftist darling Linda Sarsour is connected to the asshats running the compound.  Wonder how they'll try to spin that?

Wonder how many losses like this it'll take for universities to get the idea

that railroading students isn't a good idea?  No matter how woke it makes you feel.

"Trust our forecast!"

Right.

Last night, 'rainfall amounts 1/2 to 1", maybe higher amounts in thunderstorms'.

This morning, the gauge shows 4.5".

Damn.

Wow; Sarah Jeong isn't just a racist,

she's a nasty shit in other ways.

And Vice is full of shits.  No wonder Jeong fits in so well at the NYeffingTimes.

Well, crap

While back, going through an antique shop with my folks, looked over an original Sharps, 1874 model.  Looked pretty good, but the bore was sewer pipe.

Mentioned this to some people, and was informed that there are a couple of people around who can reline a barrel like that; that way you preserve the original and it's made shootable.  I'd known about relining barrels, did not know you could do it on something like a .45-70.

Go back to look again, and it's gone.

Dammit.
