Just like what the 'elites' want here

Whatever the merits of this sort of gun law, it strikes me as odd to enact tougher ones in response to terrorist attacks. Under the strictest of gun control regimes, members of terrorist cells aren’t likely to have difficulty coming up with whatever guns they want. Meanwhile, tougher gun laws will limit the ability of law abiding citizens to defend themselves.

But a moment’s reflection washes away the oddity. The European elites are using terrorism as a pretext for the tougher gun laws they desire.

I really want to know the backstory on this

Yes, women and girls can be abusive

Both emotionally and physically.  And part of the damned problem is how often they get away with it.  Because girls.

It was a range day

However, due to myself, some things didn't get done as should have.  Therefore, no pictures or details.

Since was finally able to get out with a friend who hadn't been shooting in damn near a year, worth it.

It's dangerous, it's stupid, and it helps the enemy.

This is why our political leaders so rarely use the terms Islamism, radical Islam and Islamic terrorism: because they want to avoid offending Islam and also because they don’t want to stir up what they view as the public’s bovine, hateful prejudices. This censorious privilege is not extended to any other religion. We do not avoid saying ‘Catholic paedophiles’ about the priests who molested children for fear of tarring all Catholics with the same brush. We happily say ‘Christian fundamentalist’ about people who are Christian and fundamentalist. We use ‘Buddhist extremists’ to describe violent Buddhist groups in Myanmar. And yet Islam is ringfenced from tough discussion; phrases which at some level include the word ‘Islam’ are tightly policed; criticism of Islam is deemed a mental illness: Islamophobia.

This is incredibly dangerous. This censorious flattery of Islam is, in my view, a key contributor to the violence we have seen in recent years. Because when you constantly tell people that any mockery of their religion is tantamount to a crime, is vile and racist and unacceptable, you actively invite them, encourage them in fact, to become intolerant. You license their intolerance. You inflame their violent contempt for anyone who questions their dogmas. You provide a moral justification for their desire to punish those who insult their religion.

Well, Deputy, join the commoners

Wearing a Class B uniform – the type of uniform with a badge embroidered on a polo-style shirt – Robinson entered the theater with friends, including some children who were looking forward to seeing the show. He was met by an employee who told him company policy forbids off-duty law enforcement officers from wearing guns into the theater.

He was unhappy.  Which is how regular citizens feel when told "You can't carry here."  Deal with it, like we have to.

Once upon a time 'The Danes' was enough to make a lot of people tremble

That's over.
A Danish teenager who was sexually assaulted near a migrant asylum centre has been told she will be prosecuted after using pepper spray to fend off her attacker.

The 17-year-old told police she was targeted in the coastal town of Sonderborg by an English-speaking man, who knocked her to the ground and tried to undress her.

But she managed to prevent the man from attacking her further by spraying the substance at him.

However, as it is illegal to use pepper spray, the teenage girl is set to face charges. It is likely she will face a 500 Krone (£50) fine
"Yes, yes, he tried to rape you, but YOU USED PEPPER SPRAY!"

Unknown generations of warriors are spinning in their graves.

"But aside from those things, the higher minimum wage is WONDERFUL!"

Headline: After A Year, Seattle’s New Minimum Wage Hasn’t Raised Retail Prices

Then you read things like
“The fact that we didn’t find very many price increases in those types of outlets was a little bit more surprising to us.”
Emphasis mine.  Doesn't match the headline, does it?

Want more?
One exception to the trend was restaurants, which raised prices 7%-9% because they rely so heavily on labor. Even there, however, owners sometimes found other ways to cut expenses as they paid workers more, such as closing during slow hours or asking customers to wait a little longer because fewer people are waiting tables.
'Fewer people', which indicates either hours cut or people laid off.    On top of the price increases.  But 'Hasn't Raised Retail Prices'.

That also doesn't count the restaurants and other small businesses that closed because of this, or weren't started.  But that's not important, I guess(except for the lost jobs and such).

I ran across this story on Michael Z. Williamson's page on Bookface, and one of the comments was this:
I read quite a few contrary stories from Seattle. Quite a few businesses shuttering or reducing services or product. And one common theme seems to reducing employee benefits, such as free parking, free meals, or employee discounts. I've read many complaints that reduction in benefits has eaten up the pay increase.
Yep.  Same thing has been noted in San Francisco: lots of small businesses, especially restaurants, closing because they can't make it under the new minimum-wage law.  But I guess all that doesn't count as long as they can claim 'MOST retail prices haven't gone up(yet)'.

10 Tips for Surviving a Terrorist Vehicle Attack

over here.

Thanks to GFZ for pointing to this

The socialists in Britain

Jeremy Corbyn faced outrage last night after it was revealed a leading supporter had described Islamic terrorists as ‘freedom fighters’.

Activist Barbara Ntumy tweeted the astonishing claim that ‘one mans [sic] Jihadist/Terrorist is another mans Freedom Fighter’, adding ‘#JustSaying.’
...

Mr Corbyn faced further outrage after high-profile supporter Daniel York, an actor who starred with Leonardo DiCaprio in The Beach, described ‘Chinese and Indians’ as ‘clueless’ minorities who ‘suck up to the white colonial establishment’.
...
Mr York, who is half Chinese, said: ‘I was talking about the Conservative Chinese, not all Chinese.’
Yeah, that's SO much better.

Speaking of socialist assholes,
Regardless of the accuracy of Marx’s antireligious claim, a more baleful one is indubitably true: Socialism is the hallucinogen of the intellectuals.

Unfortunately, these hallucinating apologists for mass murderers do not suffer their vices alone. They spend their days and years pushing false history and evil ideas on college students, who, by virtue of their youth, have insufficient knowledge with which to counter the lies.
I'll note I haven't read the whole piece; it's behind a registration wall.  The part anybody can read is a good start, though.

Yeah, the food police are full of crap;

always have been.

I feel the need for bacon.  Or something of the type.

I might start believing in the climate crisis, when these hypocritical bastards

start acting like they actually believe it.
“Everyone in our own life needs to change our habits to start protecting the Earth,” he said in his weekly appearance on WNYC radio.

But when asked to explain why he needs a motorcade of gas-guzzling SUVs to take him from Gracie Mansion to Park Slope, Brooklyn, just to exercise at a YMCA, he didn’t have an answer — and declined to give up the habit.

“The issue is not cheap symbolism,” he said testily.
No, it's you being one of the aforementioned hypocritical bastards.

The mayor is ferried to the Y by two SUVs — a regular GMC Yukon XL, which burns 16 mpg in the city, and a Chevrolet Tahoe Hybrid, which is only slightly more fuel efficient at 20 mpg.

De Blasio also suggested the city would start cracking down on idling cars — even though his own fleet has been caught waiting with their engines on for up to an hour outside the gym.

“Idling is a huge problem, and blocking the box is huge problem,” the mayor said. “I will have more to say on that in the coming weeks.”
I'll bet.  "I am not one of you peasants!  Shut up about this!"

So how long till the next one?

Police are today seeking the identities of three Jihadi terrorists who were shot dead by armed police after killing seven people and injuring dozens of others in a horrific van and knife rampage through central London last night.
Among the few guarantees in life:
The yelling about how the REAL victims are muslims,
and- this being (formerly Great)Britain,
The renewed calls for bans on knives, and reduced commonerpublic access to motor vehicles.

The weather being iffy,

good evening to go over the latest results

Whiskey, cigars, fried catfish,

meatloaf... I may have to revise my healthy-living plans.
He’s sitting in a lawn chair on the front porch of the Austin home he built nearly 70 years ago, working on his fifth Tampa Sweet cigar on a 91-degree sunny day. The smooth tunes of the Isley Brothers flow from a portable speaker. Birds are chirping in the late afternoon breeze.

“I’m feeling pretty good today,” Overton says, emphasizing the word pretty, because any day spent on this porch smoking cigars is a pretty good day for the 111-year-old.

This is where you’ll find the nation’s oldest veteran for 10 hours every day when the weather is nice. His friends call it his “stage.” It’s where Overton sits and thinks about life, his starting in 1906, the same year as the first wireless radio broadcast and a year before the paper towel was invented.
Salute, sir.

On the other end of the spectrum, teacher stands up to racist bastards, may be punished for it.  Because it was PC racism he stood up to.

Wonder how much they charge annually for indoctrination?

Deaf guy wants to go shooting, does he need hearing protection?

That question came up from daughter; my thought was that even if you couldn't have your hearing damaged, the pressure pulse from shots could be a problem, so asked around.  Answer is 'Yes'.
But I am deaf. And I’ve been deaf for as long as I can remember, so I know that pretty well. Despite my deafness, I still wear hearing protection when I shoot, and I’d like to tell you why . . .
...
My ears were instantly ringing. It wasn’t my 9mm, as I hadn’t even squeezed off a round yet. Some fellow, with his bolt action rifle, caliber unknown, had put out his target on the 100 yard line, and proceeded to sight in his gun. I shot mine, and the percussion seemed more intense than usual. The rifle to the left though…every time he fired, the ringing started anew and a sense of nausea began to grow.

I couldn’t take more than 15 minutes of it. Vertigo was kicking in big time. The tinnitus sounded like every air raid siren in Honolulu was going off, a cold sweat was breaking out. I was going to be lucky to make it out of the range without chucking lunch all over the shop floor.
...
I’m fine now. It took a week or two for the tinnitus to fade away. The headache, the nausea, the vertigo, all eventually receded. But left behind was an indelible lesson: ear protection isn’t just for protecting your hearing. Aside from hair cells inside your cochlea that turn sound waves into signals your brain translates into auditory input, there’s a lot more going on. And that protection helps make sure your body can do that for a long time. There are bones, fluids, tubes…all kinds of physiological processes going on that make for a bad time if you don’t protect them when you go out shooting.

My range has always had a rule: 'You go on the firing line, you wear hearing protection.  Period.  Don't care if you're deaf.'  Partly it's the general principal, partly nobody wants to hear "Hey, he's not wearing any, why should I have to?"  Turns out there's other good reasons.

"Hey, WE did not illegally search their computer(we just paid someone else

to do it for us)!"
EFF, a San Francisco-based nonprofit privacy group, sued the Justice Department after the government refused a request for documents about how the FBI recruits, trains and pays Best Buy workers to find illegal child pornography on customer computers sent to Best Buy for repairs.

“The public has a right to know how the FBI uses computer repair technicians to carry out searches the agents themselves cannot do without a warrant,” EFF senior counsel David Sobel said in a statement. “People authorize Best Buy employees to fix their computers, not conduct unconstitutional searches on the FBI’s behalf.”
The company says "We had no idea".  Maybe.  Entirely possible the EffingBI went to individuals and said "We'll pay you, and you can find bad guys for us!"  Maybe a little "Or we'll dig into your life a little" added in.

Why yes, I am cynical nowadays.
