Busy with friends,
so not much to post the next day or so.
I will say Leather Factory is having a sale; AND on stuff I needed! That's not common.

I'm wondering when the various administration lackeys
are going to wind up facing a question in court: "You have no authority under the Constitution to do this, so why should we listen to a word you say? Let alone follow your orders?"
Yes, I realize an awful lot of Obama buttmonkeys have little to no regard for that document that a good many of them have sword to uphold and defend(tells us what their word is worth, doesn't it?). I also realize that a lot of these companies, for various reasons, don't want the noise of actually challenging the administration on this. But sooner or later somebody will, loudly(I'm aware of the challenge on Obama's trashing of contract law, but there should be- I hope will be- more challenges).
Know what'd be funny as hell? Some company holding a press conference to say exactly that: "The Pay Czar(or whichever weenie) has ordered us to do X. However, we find no authority in law for them to give such orders, so we're not going to do it. If they want to force us, they're going to have to go to court and show where they have the legal authority to do so, and we will fight it." Can you imagine the noise from various heads exploding?

One story that didn't really make the news, one that did,
and both involve the same religion.
PEORIA, Ariz. — Police in a Phoenix suburb are looking for a father suspected of running down his daughter because she was becoming too "Westernized" and was not living according to their traditional Iraqi values.
Police say 48-year-old Faleh Hassan Almaleki of Glendale allegedly ran his daughter down Tuesday at an Arizona Department of Economic Security parking lot in Peoria.
The victim, 20-year-old Noor Faleh Almaleki of Surprise, remains hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
A second woman, 43-year-old Amal Edan Khalaf, also of Surprise, suffered non-life threatening injuries. Police say the women are roommates.
We have the 'honor' murders in Texas, now this; how many more we don't know about, at least as yet?
According to authorities, a friend of Mehanna's who is cooperating with the investigation but is not accused of participating in the alleged plot said Mehanna told him it was "unfathomable" that the United States has military bases in the "heart of the Muslim world" and that the "land of Mohammad ... is being used as a military base to attack Muslims."
Mehanna also told the friend that in the United States he feels "like a fish out of water," according to an affidavit filed in court.
Prosecutors say Mehanna and his friends used code words such as "peanut butter and jelly" for fighting in Somalia and "culinary school" for terrorist camps, and talked extensively of their desire to "die on the battlefield."
He was allegedly part of a conspiracy between 2001 and 2008 that intended to "kill, kidnap, maim or injure" soldiers and two politicians who were members of the executive branch but are no longer in office. Authorities refused to identify the politicians, who they said were never in danger.
Acting U.S. Attorney Michael Loucks said the men justified the planned attacks on malls because U.S. civilians pay taxes to support the government and are "nonbelievers," Loucks said. He refused to identify the targeted malls.
The family and friends all assure us this is a mistake, of course. Fact is, they may not know about these activities, or- in bits they did know- couldn't believe it really was this; jihadis have demonstrated great ability to hide things from family and friends who don't share the opinion.
One interesting point, Authorities said Wednesday that Mehanna and the other alleged conspirators had contacted Maldonado about getting automatic weapons for their planned mall attacks, but he told them he could only get handguns. Well, of COURSE that's bull; machineguns and hand grenades are so common they're smuggled by the thousands into Mexico! The Brady Group told us so! Etc.
An ongoing problem has been the willingness of the major media to avoid reporting on muslims with, lets us say, attitude problems; I wonder if they've ever considered the long-term problem with that? Yes, it allows them to try to protect muslims from dealing with some nasty questions, but in doing so it has helped keep them from dealing with nasty problems. When you help someone keep saying "Yes, we disapprove of this, but..." over and over with as little attention as possible, or with condemnation of anyone who yells about it, it causes a lot more problems in the long run. If they were having to deal with the nasty questions more openly it would put a lot more of them in the position of answering the question: Which side are you on? And you can't say 'both'. It'd mean more yelling and noise now, but might prevent a lot more later. And just might cause a lot of muslims who've been willing to 'yes, but' for the terrorists to put a lot more thought into what that 'but' winds up meaning, for them and for this country where they live.

So Taser now says there's the 'slight chance' of a problem...
PHOENIX - Taser International is advising police agencies across the nation not to shoot its stun guns at a suspect's chest.
The Arizona-based company says such action poses a risk — albeit extremely low — of an "adverse cardiac event."
Well, isn't that interesting after all the denials and noise of the past?
There's a reason the proper wording of the term is 'less-lethal weapon'.

"Well, I have to blame SOMEBODY
for it!"
The mother of a Miles City Mavericks baseball player who died after being hit in the head with a batted ball during a 2003 game in Helena is seeking damages from the makers of Louisville Slugger bats in this civil trial, sure to draw national attention and stoke the discussion of whether aluminum bats create an unfair advantage or are too dangerous.
...
According to the plaintiff's attorneys, Patch's death was caused by the defective and unreasonably dangerous product because the bat was designed and manufactured to allow the ball to be hit with such significant force as to endanger the safety of those playing the game. No warnings were given to adequately provide sufficient notice to users such as Patch of the dangerous propensities of these products, the suit alleges.
I have to call this absolute bullshit. I understand she's hurting; that doesn't change that this "I have to blame somebody for this!" attitude sucks. "...the bat was designed and manufactured to allow the ball to be hit with such significant force as to endanger the safety..." for God's sake! It's a BASEBALL BAT; it- and wood ones- are designed to HIT THE BALL AND MAKE IT FLY A LONG WAYS. This suit should be thrown out, and personally I think the lawyer should be be removed from the bar. Preferably with a bat shoved up his ass.
I wonder how much the lawyer stands to make if this suit were won?

I miss whisky
Specifically, the Glenfiddich I used to drink. Haven't bought or drunk any since word came out about Scotland turning the Lockerbie mass-murderer loose in order to suck up to Libya.
Yeah, it keeps money from going to the people who work in the distillery; it also keeps money out of the hands of the socialist bastards running the country.
But I do miss the taste.

Speaking of idiots who want to order our lives,
Insty pointed to this, which articulated what I'd been wondering: what's to keep the people the Pay Czar wants to cut the pay of from going somewhere else? And if they do, will someone competent want to take the job over if they know their pay is under the (very unConstitutional) thumb of this effing bureaucrat?
What's the bureaucrat going to do, order them to stay on the job? Yeah, that'll work; slavery is outlawed, and I don't think the courts will go along with a modern version:"The Czar says you have to work at that job, we just won't call it forced service."

Well, now it's not only that keeping a pet is 'slavery',
but if you keep a dog or cat you want Mother Gaia to cry and all the polar bears to drown.
The eco-pawprint of a pet dog is twice that of a 4.6-litre Land Cruiser driven 10,000 kilometres a year, researchers have found.
Victoria University professors Brenda and Robert Vale, architects who specialise in sustainable living, say pet owners should swap cats and dogs for creatures they can eat, such as chickens or rabbits, in their provocative new book Time to Eat the Dog: The real guide to sustainable living.
Isn't it wonderful to have all these experts and brilliant professors wanting to order our lives for us?

Well, isn't it wonderful that General Electric- who, concincidentally,
owns MSNBC, ...has quietly become the biggest beneficiary of one of the government's key rescue programs for banks.
At the same time, GE has avoided many of the restrictions facing other financial giants getting help from the government.

A couple of RINO betrayers, and Sen. Reid is a liar
No surprise on either, unfortunately.
President Obama has nominated the SEIU Purple Shirts’ associate general counsel, Craig Becker, to a slot on the National Labor Relations Board. Today, the Senate HELP Committee cleared him through on a 15-8 vote without a hearing. GOP Senators Mike Enzi (for whom Becker served as a labor counsel) and Lisa Murkowski voted with the Democrats.
As to Reid,
“I was stunned when I was told by his cosponsor Sen. Stabenow after we introduced this legislation that [Kyl] couldn’t support it. Even though he is a cosponsor he couldn’t support the legislation,” Reid said, making reference to Sen. Debbie Stabenow (D-Mich.), the lead sponsor of the 10-year doctor payment fix.
Kyl did not cosponsor the 10-year fix. Last year and in 2005 he cosponsored a measure that would have implemented a two-year freeze on the cuts to Medicare payments to doctors.
So either Reid's memory is that faulty, or he's a liar; I have to go with the latter.

I wonder if the kind of PC speech codes the Obamites
want to shove down our throats(would Obamacare have any fix for... nah) could get us further down the list than Canada?
The Canadian Human Rights Commission and its megalomanaic chief commissioner, Jennifer Lynch, have disgraced Canada on the international stage.
According to the annual report by Reporters sans Frontieres (that's French for Reporters without Borders) Canada has plunged from 13th place to 19th place in the world, in terms of press freedom. Here's a CP wire story on the subject.
Yeah, that's some free speech situation Chief Commissar Jennifer Lynch has created, isn't it? Among other wonders following in her wake,
7. Jennifer Lynch maintains an enemies list of her critics(I wonder if Obama & Co. are taking lessons?). And CHRC staff, such as neo-Nazi member Dean Steacy, covertly monitor sites of critical journalists.
8. Had Mark Steyn and Maclean's lost their cases, Steyn's oeuvre would have been permanently banned in Canada.
9. Lynch regularly breaks Canada's access to information laws, by falsely and illegally refusing to comply with basic requests, such as to disclose her expenses.
12. Human rights commissions have the power to search and seize documents (including computer hard drives) from premises, including media companies, without a search warrant. It was under that threat that I personally felt compelled to attend a government interrogation.
To the nanny-state weenies who're drooling at the idea, I have a message:
No Way In Hell.

Why people of conservative/libertarian belief are telling theStupidRepublican Party
to go away:
“ I wasn’t sold on Dede from the beginning. That race represents 8% of Oneida County. Throughout the nomination process, I would have thought there would have been more sensitivity, in light of what happened with Tedisco in NY 20, who was the annointed front runner. [Republican Tedisco was defeated in a special election for an open Congresssional seat earlier this year]. Just with [Dede] coming out of Albany — any legislator in Albany is so tarnished why would we nominate them ? We acted very tone deaf in how we selected this nominee.”
Joseph also took a shot at Clinton County Chairman and Assemblywoman Janet Duprey, who threw the nomination to Scozzafava despite the fact that the majority of the Clinton County committee members who attended a candidate forum voted for the ideologically conservative Paul Maroun, and not for the ideologically liberal Scozzafava.
Except,
“ As a party chairman I have intolerance for those who start banging the drum after the fact. It smells like a spoiler and it will be a spoiler. The relationship between the Republicans and Conservatives has been breached. For Republicans, the election is lost either way. If Hoffman can win it, which is a long shot ,where does that put us? ”
Joseph adamantly refused to call for Scozzafava to withdraw from the race. “ That would just be affirming Conservative Party Chairman Mike Long’s position. What are we going to do ? Let him tell us who we should nominate? ”
Uh, if most of the people in the area are calling for the conservative as the nominee, going with him would put you as listening to the people, you clown. You've just stated the position of far too many uppers in the Stupid Party: "We don't care if they actually believe in Republican ideals, as long as they give us an 'R' in the House or Senate. And screw the people who don't like it."
You're a moron, Joseph. To borrow from Mark Steyn,
Newt really needs to re-think his support for Dede Scozzafava. This isn't RINO but DIABLO - Democrat In All But Label Only. It's not one of those "socially liberal, fiscally conservative" bi-swinger deals — not when you're pro-"stimulus", pro-cash-for-clunkers. And the reductive argument that her sole redeeming value - a willingness to vote for John Boehner as Speaker — is reason enough to support her is silly in a special election. If he's ever Speaker, Boehner won't be till January 2011, and it's 12 months premature for Newt to be telling voters they need to suck it up and accept that a handful of Jim-Jeffords-in-embryo-form are necessary for the Republican tide.
Add to that that Scozzofava lied about her encounter with a guy who dared to actually ask questions...
The Stupid Party continuing to support her is, well, stupid. And why the 'R' party is losing people.

I have moved out of the dinosaur era!
I have DSL!! And so far, it's real nice. MUCH faster than the dial-up I'd still been using.
Yesterday was range day; more on that later. For now I'll just say windy as hell, but if I get a chance at Bambi and blow it, it won't be the fault of the 8mm.
Has anyone tried any of the 7.62x25 hollowpoints, like the Wolf Gold? Actually expand? One of the things fired yesterday was the TT33; if you put a bigger front sight on, and could either get used to the grip angle or maybe add something to the bottom rear to change it a bit...
In actual news, if my credit card started charging me for paying my account every month, they'd be talking to an ex-customer.
As the man says, you'd think the prosecutor would be more worried about doing the damned job right, but noooo, MUCH more vital to screw with people who find errors. Speaking of a sorry excuse for law enforcement...
If you've made a comment the last few days and seen no response, I promise I've read them, I just haven't gotten around to answering any that need it; yes, I am behind.
Hanson's opinion on Obama voting 'present' on Afghanistan. Personal opinion: this hack didn't mean a word about it when he said 'Stan was a necessary war; it was just his way of whacking at Bush in Iraq. And now that the responsibility is on him...
So Temple University is full of bedwetters who're a-skeered of that nasty Wilders guy; and read this 'excuse' for trying to cancel the invitation to speak:
"The decision to allow Mr. Wilders to share his viewpoints is a danger not only for the public safety of Muslims and the honor of the core principle of Islam, but also for academic integrity and objectivity on campus."
'Academic integrity and objectivity' means hearing opinions and thoughts, including those you don't like, dumbass; it does NOT mean refusing someone a chance to speak because you don't like them. And while I admit to not being all that smart, his speaking is a danger to 'the honor of the core principle of Islam'? What the HELL does that mean? Are you slipping and admitting that you can't deal with people who stand against you, or am I missing something here?
Damn, Day by Day comes up fast, now.

Oh yeah, the British experience with socialized medicine
is just a GREAT recommendation...
More than 3,000 staff, including doctors and nurses, have gone private at the taxpayers’ expense in the past three years because the queues at the clinics and hospitals where they work are too long.
Figures released under the Freedom of Information act show that NHS administrative staff, paramedics and ambulance drivers have also been given free private healthcare. This has covered physiotherapy, osteopathy, psychiatric care and counselling — all widely available on the NHS.

Since Jewish stuff came up the other day,
I'm stealing this from Theo:
At the Russian military academy, a general gave a lecture on "Potential Problems and Military Strategy." At the end of the lecture, he asked if there were any questions.
An officer stood up and asked, "Will there be a third world war? Will Russia take part in it?"
The general answered both questions in the affirmative.
The officer asked, "Who will be the enemy?"
The general replied, "All indications point to China ."
All in the audience were shocked. The officer asks, "General, we are only 150 million. There are 1.5 billion Chinese. Can we win at all?"
The general answered, "Just think about this. In modern warfare, it is not the quantity that matters but the quality. For example, in the Middle East we have had a few wars recently where 5 million Jews fought against 150 million Arabs, and Israel was always victorious."
After a small pause, the officer asked, "Do we have enough Jews???"

Well, isn't that nice; ANOTHER Maoist in the Obama
collective. Well, he's got at least one terrorist(Ayers) advising him, so this shouldn't be a big surprise(to people who didn't drink the kool-aid, it isn't). And since so many in the media are willing to either ignore things,
"One of the reasons we did so many of the David Plouffe videos was not just for our supporters, but also because it was a way for us to get our message out without having to actually talk to reporters," she said (emphasis added). "We just put that out there and made them write what Plouffe had said as opposed to Plouffe doing an interview with a reporter. So it was very much we controlled it as opposed to the press controlled it."(and how many media weenies said a word about this?)
or actively try to help hide them(remember the Van Jones non-story?), we don't hear about these things from them.
Like, how many major media outlets are talking about the fact that Congress exempted itself from Obamacare? Which, if it's so wonderful, why do this?
I wonder how much wordage they'll give to the way Obama betrayed the Iranian protesters because, it turns out, he was secretly talking to the mullahs? And how many words will they say about his being suckered by them? Not many, I'll bet.
On the other side, we have the RNC-supported candidate who has people trying to shield her from questions she doesn't like, to the point of calling the cops. A candidate who will vote for card-check and won't answer tax questions isn't going to get much support from people tired of RINOs; calling the cops on someone who dares to ask questions isn't exactly going to help.
And maybe somebody should have some words with the local PD, too:
Minutes later a police car drove into the parking lot with its lights flashing. Officer Grolman informed me that she was called because "there was a little bit of an uncomfortable situation" and then took down my name, date of birth, and address.
"Maybe we do things a little differently here, but you know, persistence in that area, you scared the candidate a little bit," Officer Grolman told me.
"[Scozzafava] got startled, that's all," Officer Grolman added. "It's not like you're in any trouble."
That was good to hear.
Doesn't seem like it should be part of the officer's job to basically warn people off of asking questions that 'scare' the candidate.
Back to the Evil Party side,
"Mr. Towns, a New York Democrat who also received mortgages from the unit that processed the VIP loans but claims he received no favors, has opposed such a subpoena. But can he count on his Democratic colleagues to vote it down? Perhaps Mr. Towns would rather not find out. Mr. Issa showed up for the scheduled 2 p.m. markup on Thursday hoping that a few Democrats would vote his way and allow the investigation to proceed. Then a strange thing happened: As Mr. Issa and the GOP members of the committee sat waiting for the meeting to begin, Democrats huddled in a back room without explanation. Thirty-five minutes later, the committee announced that the meeting had been postponed indefinitely.
They really don't want anyone actually investigating the Friends of Angelo, do they?
Well, this is wonderful:
A United States-based organization’s conference on breast cancer awareness, to be hosted in Egypt, has been touted by international news networks as an example of “unprecedented cooperation” in the region. However, according to Channel 2 news, the celebration of unity may be premature, as Israeli doctors were told at the last minute that their invitations to participate had been rescinded.
The conference will be held in Alexandria, Egypt this week, under the auspices of the American group Susan G. Komen for the Cure – the world’s largest breast cancer advocacy organization. It is to include meetings between leading researchers from the U.S. and several Mideast countries.
Israeli doctors were invited to the event as well, and several had planned to attend. However, on Sunday night, the doctors received brief notices telling them that they were no longer invited to the conference, by order of Egyptian Health Minister Hatem el-Gabali.
I do wonder, how many of the major media clowns are helping, or want to help, the Obama administration with doing damage to non-ass-kissing media?
That's enough for one morning, powder to burn, targets to hole.

I've been thinking about the idiot Brady Group To Ban Guns
statement on how being Christian* means you A: should not be armed and B: should not use such violence to protect yourself if you are. Aside from the general idiocy of telling people that self-defense, and the means of, are Bad Things.
Which thoughts led me to Seraphic Secret, who had a new post Jews, Guns and Torah, and his son's research:
As Ariel's conservative political opinions took form, he logically and ethically fell on the side of legal gun ownership. But because he was first and foremost a Torah Jew, first and foremost a Talmudic scholar, Ariel placed gun ownership into the framework of Jewish law, halacha.
followed by his thoughts on the matter. Touching on the means of self-defense,
Ariel pointed out that in his commentary on Genesis 4:23, Ramban, Rabbi Moshe ben Nachman, says:
“The sword is not the cause of murder, and there is no sin upon him who made it.”
In other words, a weapon, be it a sword or a gun, is neutral. It can be used for good or evil. Thus to label a gun as "bad" makes no sense, for a gun can be used in self-defense which the Torah sees as an obligation. (bold mine)
Ending with
Ariel concluded that Jews in America should be at the forefront of the right to bear arms. For Jews to rely on the power of the state for protection is sheer foolishness. Time and again, Jewish history reveals governments cruelly betraying their Jewish citizens.
And though Ariel felt that America was “unique,” he maintained that allowing the state to make the ownership of weapons illegal is a dangerous policy that opens the door for tyranny in the name of social justice.
But like so much else in American Jewish life, Jews have signed on to aggressively utopian ideologies that go against their self-interest. Instead, countless Jews espouse principles that feed their need to feel virtuous. But in the end, these are beliefs that defy common sense and display an appalling ignorance of Jewish history, halacha, and human nature.
It's really kind of amazing how many people interpret 'Turn the other cheek' to mean "Don't fight, for any reason, including to save your life." I don't recall that troublemaking carpenter saying anything like that, and if he had he'd have been denounced for it; as the gentleman notes, Jewish law holds defense of self and family and people as an obligation.
It's like the way that one Commandment is usually reported as "Thou shalt not kill", when the actual word is 'murder', or 'unlawfully kill'; BIG difference there. (*Update* Mr. Avrech informs me of an error: Just one note, the commandment reads in Hebrew “Al Tirzach,” which translates literally as “Do not murder.” In Hebrew La-harog means to kill. Thanks for the correction)
As has been noted, self-defense is a basic human right that belongs to all people; unless they let their government take it away from them(witness the insanity reported from Britain nowadays). You don't want to fight, even for your life? That's fine; but don't try to tell me, for whatever reason, that I can't.
If you have time, take a look at the post, if for no other reason than his story on what happened with his family during the Rodney King riots, which led to
“Look how close they are,” says Karen.
“Just past La Cienega. Maybe eight blocks away.”
Karen gives me a long penetrating gaze:
“What do we do if they come here?”
“After this is all over,” I vow, “I’m going to buy a pistol.”
Karen says: “How about a shotgun?”
His first buy? A product of the mind of Saint John Browning(pbuh).
*Actually, I think the Brady Group To Ban Guns would prefer using ANY reason, including ANY religion to tell you it's a sin to own guns, let alone plan to commit self-defense with them.
