There was a POS movie called 'Meteor' on tonight

and it managed, it the small part I watched, to get some of the main conflict points in early; white men who own guns are bigots and racists and looking to shoot someone of a minority type once the disaster strikes.

AND their effects and storyline sucked. And their scientists, at least the ones I saw, seemed to combine "I am a genius!" with "I'm travelling from Mexico back to JPL and I'm too stupid to make sure I don't run out of gas on the way."

And the networks wonder why so many people don't watch their work.....

Ok, this is taking the "It's that bitch Palin's fault!" and

"Palin is a symbol of anti-Feminism!" to a whole new level of idiocy.
Here's where it started:
Two years ago in June, Bridget Kevane, a professor of Latin American and Latino literature at Montana State University, drove her three kids and two of their friends -- two 12-year-old girls, and three younger kids, age 8, 7 and 3 -- to a mall near their home in Bozeman. She put the 12-year-olds in charge, and told them not to leave the younger kids alone. She ordered that the 3-year-old remain in her stroller. She told them to call her on their cell phone if they needed her.

And then she drove home for some rest.

About an hour later, she was summoned back to the mall by the police, who charged her with endangering the welfare of her children
.
Got that? Idiocy, Part I. Idiocy Part II:
The issue I want to take up today, however, is not that of tricky choices, or over- or under-involved parenting, questions that have already been discussed with much gusto elsewhere. What really sent my head spinning after reading Kevane's story was the degree to which it drove home the fact that our country's resentment, and even hatred, of well-educated, apparently affluent women is spiraling out of control.
Dumbass leaves kids at the mall so she can 'rest'. Dumbass is charged for this stupidity. But- of course- it wasn't actually a dangerous thing to dump the kids at the mall, oh no; she was charged because 'this country resents and hates well-educated, affluent women'. Yeah. Uh huh.

I now give you Idiocy Part III:
This simmering resentment is common and pervasive in our culture right now. The idea that women with a "major education" think they're better than everyone else, have a great sense of entitlement, feel they deserve special treatment, and are too out of touch with the lives of "normal" women to have a legitimate point of view, is a 21st-century version of the long-held belief that education makes women uppity and leads them to forget their rightful place. It's precisely the kind of thinking that has fueled Sarah Palin's unlikely -- and continued -- ability to pass herself off as the consummately "real" American woman. (And it is what has made it possible for her supporters to discredit other women's criticism of her as elitist cat fighting.)
I would submit that academic idiocy like this is what fuels people thinking that far too many 'well-educated' people are a bunch of elitist morons who happen to have a degree.

There's a bit more "You should be ashamed for not virtually worshipping women like this bitch who dumped her kids at the mall!"(my way of putting it), then we get this:
This is why Palin -- in her down-home aw-shucks posturing -- is the 21st-century face of the backlash against women's progress. This is why Kevane could be threatened and humiliated in front of her kids, menaced with jail time and ultimately railroaded into cutting a deal with the prosecution, once she realized she'd never be popular enough with local jurors to have a shot at making a successful not-guilty plea in court. (Paradox of paradoxes, as part of her deferred prosecution agreement, she was sentenced to even more education: in the form of a parenting class.)

The hatred of women -- in all its archaic, phantasmagoric forms -- is still alive and well in our society, and when directed at well-educated women, it's socially acceptable, too. Think of this for a second the next time you're inexplicably moved to put an "elite" woman in her place
.
First, Warner, Kevane was 'threatened and humilitiated', i.e. arrested, FOR DUMPING HER KIDS AT THE MALL, YOU EFFING JACKASS! The oldest was 12, the youngest was 3, and the left them and said "Call me if you have a problem." This 'well-educated' woman is a fool, and so are you for excusing her for her actions. She 'cut a deal', I'm guessing, because she didn't want to try to explain this stupidity to a jury, but you have to see it otherwise because facing the fact that she screwed up bigtime just isn't acceptable to you. Oh, and she obviously needs the parenting class, or a first-class kick in the ass for what she did.

Second, 'backlash against women's progress'? Are you freakin' insane? Here's a women who basically did what feminazis like you said was possible: wife, mother, and successful; went to school board to mayor's office to the governor of the damned state, and 'well-educated' vicious fools like you attacked her in every way possible for succeeding while not being of the 'Approved By NOW' type of woman while she did it. She didn't abort a baby what would be handicapped, she didn't excuse or apologize for her beliefs, and you couldn't stand it. And you're still blaming her for, or making her a symbol of, your problems. And isn't it interesting that most of the trash thrown at her hasn't been from those nasty 'anti-woman, anti-intellectual' people, but by fools like you?

You have just proven that the problem isn't education or woman-hating by the masses(as you probably like to refer to people); it's jerks like you. And the well-educated idiot who dumped her kids for the day.

One more thing on the death of Shifty Powers

Ref Shifty Powers,

James posted this, with a link you ought to click on.

My, my, it starts off a bit harsh

and goes downhill from there:
No apologies for posting consecutively on Barack Obama: the Looney Tunes President’s sell-out of US and Western interests is proceeding at such a speed that it is difficult to keep pace. Well said, Nile Gardiner, for asking if Barack Obama is the most naïve president in American history. The answer is undoubtedly yes – unless he has a secret agenda to cut America down to size.

It was always in Russia that Obama threatened to do most damage and, as Nile Gardiner has rightly pointed out, these forebodings have been fulfilled. His supposed missile deal with Vladimir Putin (let’s cut straight to the organ-grinder and by-pass Medvedev, the monkey) is very satisfactory to Russian ambitions and realpolitik

I have a question for folks out there

I've written of the Colt Model M in .32 I fired, and the .380 I found. Digging around, I noticed that the later types, like my .380, have the barrel bushing made as part of the barrel; but the early types had a separate bushing.

So, I'm wondering, in the early types did you push the recoil spring plug back and then turn the bushing to take it out? Did it screw in? Which way did it turn? Anybody know?

I ask because after a lot of searching, EVERY SINGLE REFERENCE to takedown on these is for the later models with the integral bushing, and it bugs hell out of me that I can't find it.

In a Joe Huffman Quote of the Day

we find the response to a GFW named Golonka. Here's the quote:
The NRA perfectly epitomizes the paranoid and hate-filled mind-set of the Republican voting base.

The registration and tracking of firearms, which is so necessary for effective law enforcement and actually protects legitimate gun owners, is equated by the ultra-loons at the NRA with an utterly paranoid and wholly unsupported claim that "they are coming to take my guns away."

Joe Golonka
Paranoid NRA thinking

and here's the response from Huffman:
[It sounds to me like Mr. Golonka has a little bit of hate going on there himself.

"Unsupported claim"?

"Necessary for effective law enforcement"?

  • Does he know how many crimes have been solved in Canada because of gun registration? I do (as of 2000 it was one).
  • Does he know how many crimes have been solved in Hawaii because of gun registration? I do (as of 2000 police did not know of any).
  • Does he know how effective the Nazi Police Battalions were in law enforcement because of gun registration? I do. Between July 1942 and November 1943 just one Battalion murdered an estimated 38,000 Jews. They lost only two of their own (read Hitlers Willing Executioners for the details).

Ignorance and bigotry is a terrible thing. Poor Mr. Golonka exhibits all the symptoms.--Joe]

Oh, for- this is a BOMB SCARE?

A bomb disposal unit was called to Rectory Farm in Hingham after a puppy was found carrying a live 50 calibre machine gun round in its mouth.

The young dog was blissfully unaware of the consternation she had caused after picking up the bullet which was about five and a half inches long and badly corroded.
...
The incident happened at about 7pm on Tuesday and officers cordoned off the driveway to the farm, which also has a campsite and fishing lakes, pending the arrival of the bomb disposal unit. They retrieved the bullet and took it away for disposal
.
All this. For an old cartridge. Damn.

Comment from the daughter

"There's a Pavlov's Cafe in Norman. They'd better have a bell they ring."

Two things: first, don't tick off an Aussie

who knows how to shoot:
On his own initiative and without orders, Kenna stood up in full view of the enemy less than 50 yards away and engaged the bunker, firing his Bren gun from the hip. Fire was returned at once, bullets passing between his arms and his body but somehow missing him. Undeterred, Kenna continued to fire at the enemy until his ammunition was exhausted. He then discarded his Bren gun, called for a rifle and despite intense machine-gun fire killed the enemy gunner with his first round.

When a machine gun opened up on him from a second position, Kenna, who had remained standing, killed the gunner with his next round. The bunker was captured without further loss, the company attack went forward and the enemy position was carried
.
From the sound of it, he should've left the Bren; the Enfield did just fine. Ted Kenna was awarded the Victoria Cross for this action; he died on July 8th.

And, just because I like it, a warning sign:

Both found at Theo's place.

Well, Obama has Joe Biden(Moron-US) as Veep,

why not this guy as 'science czar'?
Forced abortions. Mass sterilization. A "Planetary Regime" with the power of life and death over American citizens.

The tyrannical fantasies of a madman? Or merely the opinions of the person now in control of science policy in the United States? Or both?

These ideas (among many other equally horrifying recommendations) were put forth by John Holdren, whom Barack Obama has recently appointed Director of the White House Office of Science and Technology Policy, Assistant to the President for Science and Technology, and Co-Chair of the President's Council of Advisors on Science and Technology -- informally known as the United States' Science Czar. In a book Holdren co-authored in 1977, the man now firmly in control of science policy in this country wrote that:

• Women could be forced to abort their pregnancies, whether they wanted to or not;
• The population at large could be sterilized by infertility drugs intentionally put into the nation's drinking water or in food;
• Single mothers and teen mothers should have their babies seized from them against their will and given away to other couples to raise;
• People who "contribute to social deterioration" (i.e. undesirables) "can be required by law to exercise reproductive responsibility" -- in other words, be compelled to have abortions or be sterilized.
• A transnational "Planetary Regime" should assume control of the global economy and also dictate the most intimate details of Americans' lives -- using an armed international police force.
And who did he write this book with? Why, Paul Ehrlich and Anne Ehrlich.

And a bit more on Honduras

and the UN, once again, on the side of the tyrants and wannabes:
Miguel D’Escoto, the UN General Assembly president who believes that “Fidel Castro is the closest thing we have to a saint”, sees Zelaya reinstated soon:
D’Escoto said his belief was based on “conversations” but he declined to give further details. “I have a feeling we’re moving in that direction rather quickly. I may be wrong, but I hope not,” he said.

“I feel confident that a solution will be arrived at very soon. By soon I mean very few days. A week is soon, but I believe sooner,” he added.

D’Escoto’s saint, Fidel Castro, rants that “If Zelaya’s not reinstated, many governments in Latin America are in peril,” and that it would damage Obama’s image in Latin America.

Ooooh, Castro is ranting!! Big scary, there! Slight problem with the 'reinstated soon' wish, though;
While ousted President Manuel Zelaya carries out a raucous public battle to return and finish the last six months of his term, the Honduran attorney general is quietly collecting evidence that might put Zelaya behind bars — or keep him at bay — for years.

Zelaya and interim President Roberto Micheletti traveled to Costa Rica on Thursday to begin negotiating a way out of the political crisis in which both claim the presidency. But congress and other branches of government have suggested that some things are not on the table — namely, dropping charges so Zelaya can return.

Deputy Attorney General Roy David Urtecho, who was appointed under the Zelaya administration, said his office would vehemently resist any pressure for leniency.

”Only congress can extend amnesty,” he said. “But we will take every legal action necessary so that no accusations that have been made, or will be made, against a public official are left in impunity.”

Zelaya is facing four charges: abuse of power, treason, usurping his duties and attempts against the form of government. Only treason and attempts against the form of government might be considered ”political” charges, legal experts said
.
And, again, as to the bullshit about a 'coup',
As congress and the courts legally blocked him each step of the way, Zelaya switched tactics, ignored rulings and fired those who got in the way. It came to a crisis point on June 25 when he rallied his supporters to break into a government building and seize the impounded referendum material, which was under guard. That was the last straw.

On June 26, the Supreme Court ordered his arrest, according to documents provided by the attorney general’s office. On the morning of June 28 — the day the referendum was to take place — masked soldiers escorted Zelaya at gunpoint onto an airplane in his pajamas and flew him to Costa Rica.

In addition, Zelaya’s chief of staff, Enrique Flores Lanza, is accused of abuse of power and misuse of public funds for withdrawing about $2.2 million in cash from the Central Bank on June 24.

Urtecho said there may be more charges in the pipeline. ”We have received reports about government contracts that violated the law,” he said. “But all the documentation we needed has been in the hands of the government officials who vacated their offices on June 28.”

In the current version of Leftist Bullcrap In The News,

we start with the "Nazis in the military!!!" scare from Morris Dees and his pantswetters:
As the Mudville Gazette points out, the military represent a cross section of American society (except, I would add, leftist intellectuals who are too moral to serve). When you start talking about a diverse population with 1.5 million members you shouldn’t be highly surprised if you find a small (0.0027% to be precise) number of weirdos.

Why the alarm? Firstly, as a revenue-seeking corporation, the Southern Poverty Law Center has every incentive to fabricate an attention generating “crisis” whenever possible. This “discovery” will no doubt generate a lot of money for them. More importantly, this story feeds into a deeply held fantasy of leftists in which fascism is a major factor in American life.
...
The need of leftists to inflate their own sense of self-righteousness and self-importance leads them to magnify a tiny, highly marginalized, wacky subculture of racist socialists into this great threat to the republic which only the noble Left can stop. They also like to stigmatize the military whenever possible, so they absolutely believe that such people are common in the military. They see an ice cube floating by and imagine an iceberg.

Conversely, they ignore anti-American extremists on the far Left. Almost all of the large anti-war/anti-democracy rallies during the early part of the liberation of Iraq were organized by International ANSWER, a group founded by leaders of the Stalinist Workers World Party. No one on the Left had a problem with that. Bill Ayers is easily the leftist equivalent of a neo-Nazi. He fantasized about murdering 25 million Americans in gulags after his hoped-for communist revolution. Only his own bomb-making incompetence prevented him from detonating a large anti-personnel bomb at a U.S. Army dance and killing dozens. However, no one on the Left has any problem with him moving for years in the same close-knit society of Chicago leftists as did Obama. Moreover, Ayers and his wife are far from the only unrepentant leftist extremists in good standing with the American Left
.
Which, of course, brings up the inconvenient fact that the National Socialists WERE socialists; and the left in this country just doesn't like having that brought up.

Then we have a note on just how much damage the New York Effing Times and its sleazy reporters may have done to this country, and the fact that they're letting the people involved 'report' on this study:
Risen and Lichtblau mostly airbrush these assessmetns out of their highly selective story today. The reason is obvious. They have a vested interest in minimizing the damage that their own reporting -- also unmentioned in today's story -- has done to the national security of the United States.

Given their own role in this story, the Times shouldn't let Risen and Lichtblau continue to report on it. They have an obvious conflict of interest. The conflict is manifested in the lousy job they do fairly reporting on the IGs' report on the NSA program today
.
Also, more here.

Al Gore is not only getting rich as hell off of scaring people(Snake oil salesman Al Gore has seen his riches increase from $2 million in 2000 to over $100 million in 2008 pushing his junk science.), but he's feeling secure enough to let his true intentions out:
Gore touted the Congressional climate bill, claiming it “will dramatically increase the prospects for success” in combating what he sees as the “crisis” of man-made global warming.

“But it is the awareness itself that will drive the change and one of the ways it will drive the change is through global governance and global agreements.” (Editor's Note: Gore makes the “global governance” comment at the 1 min. 10 sec. mark in this UK Times video.)

Gore's call for “global governance” echoes former French President Jacques Chirac's call in 2000.
Because only people who, in one of their five mansions, use more energy in a month than most families do in a year are capable of running your life for you(and let's not talk about the houseboat)

And there's this from Rep. Dan Boren(Evil Party-OK) the other day:
Oklahoma's only Democrat in the congressional delegation, U.S. Representative Dan Boren has decided he is against the health care reforms being prepared by the Obama administration and Democratic leaders.
Sounds good, right?
He agreed with others that the plan comes from the liberal left of the party, is too costly and will raise taxes.
"There's also a feeling that this will come out looking much like the climate bill and we don't need two bad votes."
So if you hadn't already had the passing of that abortion of Cap & Tax, you would vote for it? Not having the other 'bad vote' fallout to deal with? Does sound that way, doesn't it? I heard part of the interview the other day, and you haven't heard so many 'uh's since Obama's teleprompter broke down. And the way he worded it sounded like exactly that: that if they weren't dealing with the fallout on Cap & Tax, some of them might vote for this 'health care reform' so as to keep Pelosi & her Flying Monkeys happy. Way to stand on principle, guys.

And last, since crapping all over a plumber for daring to ask a question made the weenies so happy, they now want to crap all over a firefighter for daring to stand up to pc bullcrap:
Supporters of Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor are quietly targeting the Connecticut firefighter who's at the center of Sotomayor's most controversial ruling.

On the eve of Sotomayor's Senate confirmation hearing, her advocates have been urging journalists to scrutinize what one called the "troubled and litigious work history" of firefighter Frank Ricci.

This is opposition research: a constant shadow on Capitol Hill.

"The whole business of getting Supreme Court nominees through the process has become bloodsport," said Gary Rose, a government and politics professor at Sacred Heart University in Fairfield, Conn.

On Friday, citing in an e-mail "Frank Ricci's troubled and litigious work history," the liberal advocacy group People for the American Way drew reporters' attention to Ricci's past. Other advocates for Sotomayor have discreetly urged journalists to pursue similar story lines
.
Yep. Can't allow the peasants to get in the way of 'progress', now can we?

Things have been getting nasty in parts of the PRC lately,

and here's two things. Insty points to this roundup, and Stingray had a link to this on China's economic problems. Including
Recent figures do not bode well for China’s current economic forecast. Unemployment has risen dramatically over the last few months, with an estimated 20 million of China’s 130 million migrant workers unable to find work. Textile factories are closing by the thousands leaving large swaths of China’s textile workers unemployed. The World Bank on Wednesday lowered its economic growth forecast for China this year to 6.5 percent, down from 7.5 percent at the end of last November, after huge falls in exports and shrinking private sector investment.

As a large country with an unusually high degree of openness to the world economy, China depends on other countries, notably the United States, for its domestic prosperity and stability. Thus China is highly vulnerable to shocks from the international economy. The latest figures show foreign trade accounts for 75% of China’s GDP - an astounding figure when put in perspective
.
I'm not an economist, but for a nation that size to depend on foreign trade for that much of GDP... that's not good.

Also,
Consequently, since 1989, the term “social stability” became a fixture of CCP rhetoric. Stripped down to essence however, this is merely a euphemism to convince the Chinese public that Communist Party rule is essential for maintaining order and prosperity, and without it, a country as large as China could descend into civil war and chaos. In their speeches, the leaders make no secret of their anxieties and social unrest, frequently using the catchphrase ”维护社会安全“ or “maintaining social order” as the overarching principle of Chinese development.
"Maintaining social order"; translation, "The Party is your best friend and leader, remember it or else."
To be sure, it is easy to see why CCP leaders are obsessed with preserving social order. There are signs all around them of burgeoning social unrest that Beijing is acutely aware of. Official statistics indicate that there were 58,000 “incidences of social unrest” in 2003, 74,000 in 2004, and 87,000 in 2005. Scanning the horizon from Zhongnanhai, the government epicenter in Beijing, CCP leaders see nothing but the spector of inchoate social unrest threatening the legitimacy Communist Party rule.
Remember that ancient Chinese curse "May you live in interesting times"?

I'm going to stea- uh, borrow a picture from Stingray,

because it just fits how to introduce this. Go read.

This story about Gen. Chesty Puller is apocryphal,

but I like it.
During one battle a ROK ( Republic of Korea ) commander, whose unit was fighting along with the Marines, called legendary Marine General Chesty Puller, to report a major Chinese attack in his sector.

"How many Chinese are attacking you?" asked Puller.

"Many, many Chinese!" replied the excited Korean officer.

General Puller asked for another count and got the same answer, "Many, many, many Chinese!"

"X*#dammit!" swore Puller, "Put my Marine liaison officer on the radio."

In a minute, an American voice came over the air:

"Yes sir?"

"Lieutenant," growled Chesty, "exactly how many Chinese you got up there?"

"General, we got a whole shit load of Chinese up here!"

"Thank God!" exclaimed Puller, "At least there's someone up there who knows how to count.

I'm sorry to say I didn't hear of the death of Shifty Powers

until today, when a friend sent me an e-mail; I'm going to put the text here:

"We're hearing a lot today about big splashy memorial services.

I want a nationwide memorial service for Darrell "Shifty" Powers.

Shifty volunteered for the airborne in WWII and served with Easy Company of the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, part of the 101st Airborne Infantry. If you've seen Band of Brothers on HBO or the History Channel, you know Shifty. His character appears in all 10 episodes, and Shifty himself is interviewed in several of them.

I met Shifty in the Philadelphia airport several years ago. I didn't know who he was at the time. I just saw an elderly gentleman having trouble reading his ticket. I offered to help, assured him that he was at the right gate, and noticed the "Screaming Eagle", the symbol of the 101st Airborne, on his hat.

Making conversation, I asked him if he'd been in the 101st Airborne or if his son was serving. He said quietly that he had been in the 101st. I thanked him for his service, then asked him when he served, and how many jumps he made.

Quietly and humbly, he said "Well, I guess I signed up in 1941 or so, and was in until sometime in 1945 . . . " at which point my heart skipped.

At that point, again, very humbly, he said "I made the 5 training jumps at Toccoa, and then jumped into Normandy . . . . do you know where Normandy is?" At this point my heart stopped.

I told him yes, I know exactly where Normandy was, and I know what D-Day was. At that point he said "I also made a second jump into Holland, into Arnhem." I was standing with a genuine war hero . . . . and then I realized that it was June, just after the anniversary of D-Day.

I asked Shifty if he was on his way back from France, and he said "Yes. And it's real sad because these days so few of the guys are left, and those that are, lots of them can't make the trip." My heart was in my throat and I didn't know what to say.

I helped Shifty get onto the plane and then realized he was back in Coach, while I was in First Class. I sent the flight attendant back to get him and said that I wanted to switch seats. When Shifty came forward, I got up out of the seat and told him I wanted him to have it, that I'd take his in coach.

He said "No, son, you enjoy that seat. Just knowing that there are still some who remember what we did and still care is enough to make an old man very happy." His eyes were filling up as he said it. And mine are brimming up now as I write this.

Shifty died on June 17 after fighting cancer.

There was no parade.

No big event in Staples Center.

No wall to wall back to back 24x7 news coverage.

No weeping fans on television.

And that's not right.

Let's give Shifty his own Memorial Service, online, in our own quiet way. Please forward this email to everyone you know. Especially to the veterans.

Rest in peace, Shifty.

Range day, a day late

Hit the range yesterday morning before it got hot. Pocket Hammerless, the Webley MkIV, the carry .45 and the Combat Masterpiece.

The more I shoot that Colt, the more I like it. The trigger's great, it points wonderfully, and it seems to eat anything I feed it with no problems. My one real gripe is that it's a good thing it points so well, because those 'sights' might as well not be there; that tiny front blade and tiny rear sight & notch... Fact is, it was made as a defense sidearm that'd fit in a pocket or purse and not snag when you drew it, and it fits that wonderfully. If someone decided to start making them, though, I'd recommend two changes:
More defined, easy-to-see sights and
Thumb safety a bit more like the 1911, more for your thumb to hit and a positive on-off.
It's have to be someone making them new; if we heard someone was modifying an original this way there'd be screams of agony.

The Webley, if you've never fired one, has a nice front post and a WIDE, deep rear notch for sights; it was intended as a combat/defensive firearm and makes no bones to be anything else. Which doesn't change that with bullets that fit the bore and some care aiming it's quite accurate. That Lyman 200-grain roundnose bullet works very well in it, and actually hits at point of aim. Next time I've managed to collect a bunch of 1-gallon bottles I'm going to shoot some with it and see what that bullet does; I've heard that it tends to go unstable almost immediately after impact, tumbling and giving a much better wounding effect. Be nice to find out. I'll also note it's got a very nice trigger; double-action is a bit heavy, single-action light and clean.

The carry .45 did what it usually does, went bang-bang with no problems, which is why it's the carry piece. I shoot some with the Crimson Trace grips turned on, some with them off; As Tam pointed out once, in bright light, or in cold weather when you're wearing gloves, that laser may not be visible, so you'd better be able to use the sights.

The Smith, I also like more as I shoot it. Marvelous sights, smooth action, light single-action trigger, it even makes me look like a good shot. And it shoots well with every brand of ammo I've fired in it, a very nice thing with the current "Find what you can/when you can" ammo situation.

One thing I noticed, there were a lot of women shooting. All in groups of two or three, and all having a ball burning through a LOT of ammo. Good thing to see.

It seems those bills by Alcee Hastings(Impeached Dirtbag-Evil Party)

is getting some of the attention it deserves:
What's wrong with this picture? The federal government spends billions on homeland security, but apparently can't stop foreigners from illegally crossing the border or overstaying their visas. The Obama administration wants to bring violent terrorists captured overseas to the mainland and close the military detention center at Guantanamo Bay. Yet in the latest bizarre twist, legislation quietly making its way through Congress would give the White House power to categorize political opponents as hate groups and even send Americans to detention centers on abandoned military bases.
...
Another Hastings bill (HR 645) authorizes $360 million in 2009 and 2010 to set up "not fewer than six national emergency centers on military installations" capable of housing "a large number of individuals affected by an emergency or major disaster." But Section 2 (b) 4 allows the Secretary of Homeland Security to use the camps "to meet other appropriate needs" - none of which are specified. This is the kind of blank check that Congress should never, ever sign
.
Hell, no, they shouldn't. But with clowns like Hastings and Pelosi there, you know some of them are drooling at the idea.
