Long ago had a kitten, that turned into a cat, and one day brought a puppy home.
The cat spent the first while on a table looking out the window: "What is THAT THING doing in MY YARD?"
After a while, they got along very well.

yeah, at one time there there was a 110 pound roadie ridgeback male and a 82 pound pit bull kind mix living with a 10 pound cat in my house.
and at times you would find them sleeping together on the couch. or one of the dog beds.
dogs and cats get along just fine if you let them do it on their own time. funny part was when said cat (goofy) was a kitten and used to "attack" the dogs from the couch as they walked by. both of them just looked at him like he was nuts or something.
big problem was when the oldest died. the pit mix at 13. the other two had a hard time with her gone. the ridgeback went next a year later and then the cat/goofy just looked lost all the time until he didn't wake up one morning.
Years ago we had a cat the brought home a stray puppy. That dog became the cat's guard dog.
