Our society's elite ... and their followers ... do not see the political divide as Left vs. Right.
They see themselves as the "righteous normal", versus an "evil other" that doesn't deserve to be heard, let alone respected ...
... and therefore their suppression by the elite's institutional gatekeepers is justified.
They are playing God, with others' lives, believing that any questioning, dissent or refusal to comply with their One True Way can only be based in ignorance or evil … and such people should be viewed as lesser beings.
