There are a number of things that'll work, here's one I ran across years ago in an article by a guy who does custom revolver work(among other things)*: Lubriplate SFL-0. It's a synthetic grease that's rated safe on food-handling equipment, which means it's very resistant to washing off. Works well down to low temps, slick as hell, no bad smell.

I've used Lubriplate for years . If it's good enough the M1 Garand it's good enough for any firearm. I have 100s of the little containers that came with the M1s. There everywhere, in the boat, car , toolbox. I put that stuff on everything.

Slicker than baby oil?
Gunblue490 is a YT channel. The man is a gunsmith, past US Army and FBI armorer. NRA instructor and FBI and Secret Service instructor.
He uses baby oil almost exclusively on all types of firearms. Thin coat only, if you can see it, it's too much.
I am loathe to use grease on firearms because it collects dust and grime. What am I missing? Why should I reconsider?

being rated safe for use on food equipment has zero to do with how well it stays on/resists being washed off... it has everything to do with it not being toxic....
Baby oil? That I've never heard of using.
Rick, oil and grease both have good/bad things about them. I personally like grease on slide/frame rails on pistols.
Same here, grease for frame / slide / barrel & bushing ... and I've been using the Lubriplate SFL-0 for 8 or 10 years now.
I used to use USP mineral oil on everything else, now I am using Nyoil.
