One of the least-welcome long guns to see at the next bench

for me at least, is a Springfield Scout-version of the M1A.  Because of that friggin' compensator on the muzzle.  Borrowing their picture for example:
M1A™ Scout Squad™ Rifles
It blows the muzzle blast all around, and it's BLEEPING AWFUL LOUD.   Ruger has a similar type on their Ranch Rifles, and it has the same problem.  Hell, it makes the muzzle blast of a .300 Blackout offensive.

Good rifles, but I do hate them.  It's like seeing someone take a AR15 pistol out of a case and it has a cookie-cutter muzzle device.  You don't want to be anywhere near the damn thing.

yeah, not a fan of the blast myself. I tried one of those SME made by Witt machine and I love it.
blast and most of the noise goes down range.

I get where you are coming from. I thought a 16 inch AR in 5.56 with a bare muzzle was bad. I got a ruger ranch in 450 bushmaster that had a harmonica on the front. That thing was obnoxious. The first deer I shot with it I had those earmuffs that amplified sound and would shut off at a gunshot. All fine and dandy until my next deer. I had the muffs buried in my pack and couldn't find them in the dark so I went without. I spotted a deer and decided to take the shot. Ugh! My ears rang in high, medium, and low pitch all at once. It sounded like an air raid siren in the distance. And wouldn't you know, a 2nd deer showed up! I lined up on it and I couldn't make myself pull the trigger. It was that bad.

I love my M1A's. And frankly, I like it when there is no one else at the range. But the bottom line is that I didn't get them for range shooting, even if that is what they currently are tasked with.
I got them because they excel at reaching out and "touching" someone.
