And the Mexican government starts

stomping the people who embarrassed them by actually DOING something about the cartels.

Right about now anybody who obeyed the government and registered the arms they'd acquired is not feeling real good about it.

    What else can be expected from a socialist gubmint after the locals have both embarrassed them and shown how irrelevant they are. Useful tools always get discarded after their usefulness is over.
