Now Zimmerman needs to file with the state bar for the disbarment of the prosecutors who violated ethics and law. And see about prosecution for the lawbreaking.
One question which comes to mind is whether the whole trial had ever happened except for the fact that Zimmerman happened to have a very Aryan white sounding name. So, good opportunity for the ruckus in the news (poor black teen wantonly killed by a big bad white guy, now see how strongly we defend the oppressed minority) before it came out that designated villain actually didn't look particularly Aryan (after which the patch 'white' Hispanic). And by that time it would have been embarrassing for the people who had been crying from the rooftops for justice for the poor teen to start backing up, so they just kept pushing (and the villain was more white than any real member of some oppressed minority anyway, right?)...?
ReplyDeleteAs usual, the Finnish press has left most of the details out. It's mostly some version of 'verdict reached in the trial for the killing of a black teen' in the local papers.
From everything I've read, this would have stayed a local case, handled(properly) by the local authorities
ReplyDeleteEXCEPT
Sharpton and Jackson and Holder and every other RWPP jackass out there saw a chance to gin up anger and get publicity and cause problems; and they just can't pass that up.
The former police chief has stated flatly that he was pushed to make an arrest that he knew was unjustified just so Zimmerman would be released but the city could say "We arrested him!" And was wrongly fired because he refused.
Ah, hell, you actually look at our news and probably know all this; I've been pointing out inconvenient facts to people for so long on this I forget to stop.
ReplyDeleteNever hurts to have a few repeats, I'm not the only reader here. :)
ReplyDeleteOf course with lots of people no amount of repeating facts helps. I think my blood pressure has been getting dangerously high today, after going through the comments to those Finnish articles. About third are trying to point out the facts of case. The other lament how very uncivilized country USA is, full of gun nuts who get their guns from the nearest grocery store and shoot whenever they see anything a little bit suspicious somewhere. And then there are the few who admit the facts - self-defense, yes - but seem to think Zimmerman should have shot only to wound.
Okay, I think I need to do something relaxing now.
And oh yes, then there is the constant self-congratulation of how something like that would have never happened here, in civilized Europe.
ReplyDeleteTrue. Here Zimmerman would have been beaten, at least, possibly killed or permanently disabled. And the attacker, well, he would probably have gotten some sort of sentence, but even in the case of his victim's death it would have been a relatively light one (under aged first timer).
About a decade ago a gang of teen murdered a married couple for money here, the wife while she was on the phone with the emergency dispatch and begging for her life to them. They took the money and cut up the bodies, and sank them into a lake in a bag, but the bodies were found. Premeditated, very.
Except for the leader they have been all out of jail for several years now, and I think the leader just got out on probation last year. Their sentences were about twice what that woman who killed her rapist I have sometimes talked about got, and first timers usually actually sit about half.
So civilized here.
