These animals have been protected f...Another thing. These animals have been protected for no particularly good reason since, IIRC, 1996. Since then the cougars have lost their fear of man, mauled a child or two or three in the coastal mountains south of Los Angeles, and mauled several adult humans, not to mention being observed stalking humans on numerous occasions. <br />They weren't a threatened species before, and certainly aren't now. They are becoming the alligators of California, except no one makes shoes or cougar steaks out of them.
