Yes, the lens obscured the facts. The first photo was taken at noon in mid summer. Full sun, everything mature and in bloom. The second was taken in early morning or late afternoon in March or April. Low angle of sun, planting hasn't been done yet. Perennials and early/late crops are the only things in the ground. The overcoat suggests cold weather.
