Everything I've ever read indicates St. Helens and Ranier & Co. are standard stratovolcanos; if they were part of a super, I'd think something would have showed before now.

On the other hand, we can always use a new "We're gonna DIE!" for the disaster-is-coming folks.Firehandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04562365951182027709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8515829.post-13268207265804102992009-06-11T15:28:24.663-07:002009-06-11T15:28:24.663-07:00I think it much more likely that the survey data i...I think it much more likely that the survey data is being misinterpreted.

Mount St Helens is part of the Cascades Range, a chain of volcanoes generated by what geologists call "subduction volcanism." The 1980 eruptions, and the eruptions since then, have all been consistent with that theory. Supervolcanoes come from a very, very different set of underlying geologic causes and produce a very different kind of volcanism.wolfwalkernoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8515829.post-83379318962651124112009-06-11T06:21:10.772-07:002009-06-11T06:21:10.772-07:00I live in Utah.
