NOW!"Firehandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04562365951182027709noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8515829.post-2580171469612917142008-06-15T04:35:00.000-07:002008-06-15T04:35:00.000-07:00They're doing it all wrong.They need to do it in s...They're doing it all wrong.<BR/><BR/>They need to do it in small steps: Pass a "constitution" granting very limited and specific powers to the EU government...like, say, ratifying treaties, declaring war, regulating commerce between EU member nations (sometimes known as "states"), providing for the common defense of the entire EU, establishing an EU judiciary with the limited role of deciding inter-EU nation disputes, things like that.<BR/><BR/>That would be much more palatable to the citizens of the individual countries who still see themselves first as members of their nations and only secondarily as Europeans.<BR/><BR/>Then, over the course of, oh, 200 years or so, slowly expand beyond the constraints of the constitution, expand the power of he "federal" EU government and simply usurp the authority of the individual EU "states".
