This is unpossible!
Australians may be more at risk from gun crime than ever before with
the country’s underground market for firearms ballooning in the past
Previously unseen police statistics show that the number of
pistol-related offences doubled in Victoria and rose by 300 per cent in
New South Wales. At least two other states also saw a massive jump in
firearms-related offences during the same period.
Hmmm... 'previously unseen', I wonder why...
• NSW: in 2014-15, there were 3463 firearms charges, up 83 per cent on 2005-06
• Victoria: in 2014-15, there were 3645 firearms-related charges, up 85 per cent on 2005-06
• SA: in 2014, charges for possession and trafficking of guns are up 49 per cent on 2010-11
• Tasmania: in 2014, charges for unlawful gun possession were up 32 per cent on 2005-06
Someone tell President The Australian Solution that that solution isn't quite working out.
I just love this:
There are several ways to interpret the data: either the rate of
offending has risen dramatically in the past decade or the problem was
always much larger than previously understood.
Let me give you a hand: repeat after me, Criminals Don't Obey Gun Laws.
And, lest we think some common sense might break out down there,
Samantha Lee, an advocate for tighter firearms laws at Gun Control
Australia, said the laws regulating the sale of ammunition in Tasmania
and Victoria were weak.
“Gun enthusiasts are quite right when they say guns don’t kill – it’s
the bullets that kill,” he said. “For many years we just focused on the
guns and ignored the ammunition that was lying around – now people are
starting to realise that ammunition control is just as important.”
As Kevin has put it, "The philosophy cannot be wrong! Do it again, ONLY HARDER!!" And with these nanny-state control freaks, that means "The bans and restrictions just didn't go far ENOUGH, if we pass even more, THAT WILL FIX IT!"
