now, there’s 2000 miles of border- but of course a lot of it IS fenced, in towns and areas where there’s border crossings, so let’s assume 1500 miles. That’s $150 million to put up the fence. Do that three times, with ten feet between the fences, and you got $450 million. And wingnuthead is planning to spend two billion to basically do nothing, but look like he has accomplished something.

$450 million dollars seems like a lot of money, but it’s chump change to some. Teams of volunteers could do this- I bet ten guys could put up a mile of 12′ fence in a week. Two guys drilling holes, two guys setting posts, two guys capping and railing, two guys stretching chain, two guys hanging concertina. With the right power tools it’s a cakewalk. That’s 1500 miles times ten guys; I have no doubt there’s fifteen thousand men in this country that would like to see the borders more secure.
Can you imagine the screaming from the usual suspects?  Those racist assholes at la Raza probably loudest of all.

Zimbabwe used to export food; under this socialist bastard it has to import to keep too many people from starving, the economy is shot and has been for many years, and they've trashed the wildlife population.  Well done, Jimmeh and friend!

That SWAT team that dropped a flash-bang into an occupied crib?

Just ran across this at WeaponsMan; this just gets worse.
Here’s a few fun facts about the incident that wounded “Bou-bou” Phonesavanh.
  • The individual who threw the grenade in Georgia had no such flash-bang certification. Neither did any of the SWAT members.
  • The thrower had not had any formal training on how to use the grenade, or its capabilities.
  • He’d never thrown one before.
  • The individual never looked in the room, but threw the grenade blind into the toddler’s crib.
  • The SWAT members didn’t just lie to the child’s stressed-out mother, Alecia Phonesavanh. They also lied to their superiors about the incident. Many departments will countenance the former, but not many have much toleration for the latter. (There’s also some question of the integrity of the officers in charge, who have previously been found to falsify records in other cases).
  • The SWAT team was all new and had conducted almost no individual and collective training.
  • They claimed they “knew” there were no children in the house, but no policeman had been in the house, and even their informant had not been inside. They actually had to move a baby stroller and walk past a minivan with four child seats to stack up on the house. Four child seats and a stroller are what an intelligence officer might call “indicators.”
  • News stories say the target of the raid was arrested “later,” but supposedly the investigation has uncovered that he was already in custody when the raid initiated. So the raid took place to grab a guy who was already in the back of a cruiser elsewhere. “Why waste a good (?) raid plan?” seems to have been their rationale.
A previous team with some of the same officers shot an innocent man in 2009, and investigation then determined that some of the officers had had no training but did have pencil-whipped training records. That one cost the taxpayers $2.3 million despite DA Brian Rickman’s efforts to cover it up. He was working to cover this one up, too, so the investigation has been taken out of his untrustworthy hands. There were no consequences to Rickman or county police leadership over the falsified records and cover-up attempt. In retrospect, that was probably one of the errors that led directly to the grave injuries visited on this innocent kid.
Start prosecuting and firing people.  From the bastards who faked records to the incompetent fools on the team(whatta you wanna bet they refer to themselves as 'operators'?) to the supervisors and officers who knew they weren't qualified to be doing this.  Every damned one of them.

It was California Highway Patrol officers who put Patricia Konie

in the hospital in New Orleans; apparently beating on older women is in vogue with them.

Especially those already helpless.

Well Done, Trooper; you just demonstrated why so many people won't trust men with badges anymore.

This is not good

Hundreds of West Africans could be carrying the deadly Ebola virus and not know it, potentially infecting hundreds more, as cash-strapped governments and overwhelmed aid agencies struggle to contain the virus's spread. 

At least 1,500 people have not yet been traced who are known to have come into contact with others confirmed or suspected to be infected with the haemorrhagic fever, Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) told The Telegraph.
Yeah, 'hemorrhagic fever virus' and 'out of control' are not things you want to hear together.

Some thoughts on training


Because they'd rather a kid be a victim than a defender.  Fuck these people, and not in a good way.


And I guarantee Obama & Co. like it that way.


Yes, I did make it to the range today.  Along with general stuff, zeroed the M92 project; had to shift the sight just a touch to bring it dead-on with windage, and raise the rear one notch.  That puts it dead-on at 50 and 100, 100 being the longest range I'd want to use it for real.

And I'm going to make some kind of spacer for the stock to extend it about an inch to try, I think it'll be a bit more comfortable for me.  Otherwise, it stays as-is; works, short & handy, 8+1 of .357 Mag should be enough for any possible social use.

Note to people messing with leverguns: bench-resting them can be touchy: a lot of them, if you rest the forend on the bag, it'll cause it to throw high, so the general recommendation I've heard is to rest the receiver itself.  Which works on some, but on my Model 94 doesn't; you're better off holding the forend with your hand and resting the hand.  In the case of this M92, no difference between resting the receiver and the hand, which makes it a bit nicer to zero or test loads.  I will note that what I really need is either some different sights, or better eyes; I think it's capable of better accuracy than I was today.

Representative Jim Bridenstine (R., Okla.) was told he could schedule an appointment for July 21. ““What are they trying to hide?” Bridenstine said after the incident. ”Do they not want the children to speak with Members of Congress?  As a Navy pilot, I have been involved in operations countering illicit human trafficking.  I would like to know to whom these children are being released.”

A government-contracted security force threatened to arrest doctors and nurses if they divulged any information about the contagion threat at a refugee camp housing illegal alien children at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas, sources say.

In spite of the threat, several former camp workers broke their confidentiality agreements and shared exclusive details with me about the dangerous conditions at the camp. They said taxpayers deserve to know about the contagious diseases and the risks the children pose to Americans. I have agreed to not to disclose their identities because they fear retaliation and prosecution.
A: Yes, we do.
B: I'd love to know what law these clowns intend to arrest them for.  However, considering Holder's DoJ(to greatly misuse that last word), Deity knows.
She said children in the camp had measles, scabies, chicken pox and strep throat as well as mental and emotional issues.

“It was not a good atmosphere in terms of health,” she said. “I would be talking to children and lice would just be climbing down their hair.”
And, to make all this even better,
The nurse told me she became especially alarmed because their files indicated the children had been transported to Lackland on domestic charter buses and airplanes.

“That’s what alerted me,” she said. “Oh, my God. They’re flying these kids around. Nobody knows that these children have scabies and lice. To tell you the truth, there’s no way to control it.”
So how many people have/will wind up infected/infested because of this?  And you'll see they really don't want the locals to find out what's been stuck in their midst.

But don't worry, you'll see that the people in charge insist everything's being handled with no problems, this is just imaginary/made-up/lies/"Do you actually believe the .gov would do this?"

Moms Demands some Action at it again

Want to make people think accidental shootings of kids is a far worse problem?  Easy:
Lie.
And in a fairly disgusting way.
New research from a gun control group backed by former Mayor Michael Bloomberg finds the federal government is underestimating the number of children killed in unintentional firearm deaths.
Sounds terrible, doesn't it?  And why would the cops do such a thing?

Well, they don't:
The report finds that local and state coroners and medical examiners tend to err toward classifying deaths as intentional homicides when intent is unclear, thus underreporting unintended shootings.

“Our analysis confirms that the official data significantly undercount the scale of the phenomenon,” according to the report, entitled “Innocents Lost.”

Wait..what? These are the same idiots that have been screaming about how awful is that accidental shootings are called that instead of having Law Enforcement/ District Attorney press charges, but when they are tagged as intentional homicides they complain too? 
Whatever makes things look worse, so they can dance in the blood and shriek.

Why police in the PROM hate this bill:

...Our reasoning is that we do not agree with the change in what can disqualify you for a license to carry a firearm in this bill. In the current legislation, if you are convicted of a misdemeanor that carries a punishment of two years or more, you are disqualified. In this bill it reduces that time to one year. This could negatively impact some of our members who had previously qualified and had no issues in the past. In some cases it could potentially terminate employment. This is the one issue within the bill that has an effect on our membership’s employment.
'Screw the civilians, some of us Only Ones would lose our jobs!  Where's our exemption?"

I believe the bigger issue is that if they claim themselves to be "private corporations" then they should have zero access to surplus weapons of war. If they want their tanks, they have to pay full price like everybody else. It's cool, they're a corporation, so you know they can afford it.
While we're at it, we should probably get rid of their public funding. Nobody likes a Wellfare Queen.

Also, as private corporations if they show up at my doorstep with ill intent I can safely stand my ground.
edit: I wasn't going keyboard commando. A real police SWAT team arrives, I will get down and be detained. But a private SWAT? One that is not a public police agency? Well that is exactly the time to break out the BAR, just like I would for any other home invader.
That is what this Mass. SWAT team is arguing, they are a private corporation, not a public agency. They want to have their cake (able to use being a public agency to come fuck my shit up) and eat it too (by being a private corporation, free from public scrutiny).

Oh my, wonder how this might affect things?

Even from Bloomberg, this is one of the more idiotic things I've read in a while.  They throw out every straw-man and extremist thing they can about libertarians- and flat lie about Cruz and others- and then claim "It's not strawmen, those libertarians really ARE insane!" 

They also come up with the standard 'Somalia is libertarian paradise!"  and the other crap along those lines.    And I'm borrowing this from Insty:

Secondary Project: the old frame

Couple of days ago finally got in the last part I needed to complete the Kimber frame.  Most of it dropped right in.  Not completely stripped, but here's (most of)the parts:
Clockwise from the top: disconnector, pin, sear; hammer, strut pin, strut, hammer pivot pin; thumb safety; grip safety; sear/disconnector/grip safety spring.  The trigger, magazine latch, thumb safety & slide lock plungers & spring are in place in the frame.  And yes, I forgot to put the mainspring housing in the picture.

If you're wondering how these all work, I point you to this marvelous illustration thanks to STI and M1911.org.  You can hide or show different parts so as to see just how others function.  Which brings me to the one part that actually required fitting: the disconnector.
One pin fits through the disconnector and sear, holding them in place in the frame.  That three-finger spring bears on them with different arms: one causes the sear to pivot against the hammer, one bears on the angled face at the bottom of the disconnector and forces it up.  The third pushes the grip safety out and doesn't bear on the matter at hand.

Sear holds hammer in cocked position, top of the sear fits in a recess in the bottom of the slide.  Pull trigger, it actually pushes on the front face of the disconnector which pivots the sear, releasing the hammer.  Cartridge fires, and slide cycles back, cocking the hammer and pushing the disconnector down, which means the sear cannot be moved by the trigger.  As the slide moves back into battery, the top of the sear moves back up into that recess, which puts that bottom part in place between trigger and sear, allowing the trigger to trip the process again.

If the disconnector were too short, that could allow the hammer to follow the slide down instead of being caught at full-cock; that could allow the gun to double, or could cause an out-of-battery fire; Bad.  If it's too long?  That can prevent the sear from being able to pivot far enough; it'll let the hammer fall, but the sear nose will catch in the half-cock notch and prevent the piece from firing.  Which is what was happening.

Two fixes for this.  The preferred is to use a special scraper and scrape some steel out of that recess, so the disconnector can move far enough up.  Problem is, this is going to be working with the Ciener .22 upper, and the slide is aluminum with a hard coating to prevent wear; scrape that depression and you'll get rid of the coating, not a good thing to do.  Careful measuring found the new piece was .020" long, some careful cutting was able to shorten it that much, including polishing the surfaces.  Assembled everything and worked the action, all now cycled as it should.  This morning went to the range and tried it, and all worked as should.

One more thing I want to do.  The frame rails are badly worn, I want to work them in the proper places to get a better fit to the slide, then have the frame hard anodized to cut down on future wear.




First: it's so very gratifying

when something you sweated over actually works properly.

Second:  especially when there's some emotional attachment.

The rebuilt Kimber frame worked perfectly, with the .22 conversion on top it went through about a hundred rounds without a single problem.  I'll have more on this later, want to take a couple of pictures for that report.

The other was a Smith & Wesson revolver given to me by someone.  It's a .357 that has a LOT of wear on it, and had developed a couple of problems.  Working fine now.  More on that later as well, with a couple of pictures.


"Chase Bank wants to know if you have approved thoughts, employee;

This is a company wide survey. All lines of business have the same survey. There was a question where it said to check the boxes that were applicable to you. You could select one, more than one, or none. Here it is:

Are you: 1) A person with disabilities; 2) A person with children with disabilities; 3) A person with a spouse/domestic partner with disabilities; 4) A member of the LGBT community.
I thought 4 was a little oddly placed, but oh well. It was the next option that pulled the needle off the record:

5) An ally of the LGBT community, but not personally identifying as LGBT.
What?! What kind of question was that? An "ally" of that community? What's the
alternative if you don't select that option? You're not a ally of the LGBT
community?
This survey wasn't anonymous. You had to enter your employee ID.
Anyone think they're not keeping records of this? 


Finally got all the remaining parts and finished the Kimber frame, and have the .22 upper mounted.  Going to try it out this morning, more on that later.
