As for number 8. James Thurber wrote a short story called "The Maiden And The Wolf". In it, he recounted how the wolf attempted to molest the maiden, but the maiden had a "Browning", and "shot the wolf dead."
The moral of the story was, "nowadays it's not so easy to put one over on young maidens any more" (I'm paraphrasing a bit, I discovered the story in a book for teaching German to Austrian 13 year-olds).
