"Nobody wants to ban your guns!" Until they do.

The transparent goal of Massachusetts Senator Edward Markey’s ‘‘Handgun Trigger Safety Act of 2014’’ is the utter destruction of the handgun market in the United States, including prohibiting the sale, trade, transfer, shipping, leasing or distribution of handguns already in circulation.

If you think I’m being hyperbolic, please read on, as it is very easy to prove.

The proposed bill (PDF) would require all future handguns to be equipped with technology that restricts ”only an authorized user of the handgun to fire the handgun.” This technology must “be incorporated into the design of the handgun” and “cannot be readily removed or deactivated.”

The technology would be required on all new handguns sold in the United States within two years of the bill being passed into law, meaning all future handguns would have to incorporate this technology… technology that doesn’t currently exist in any credible, reliable form.

And Sebastian found out more:
It would also require any gun sold, after three years, whether privately or from a dealer, to be a retrofitted smart gun, meaning there would be no grandfathering for current stock. All handguns would have to be retrofitted if with smart gun technology if you wanted to sell, offer for sale, trade, lease, transfer, ship your handgun. Markey might as well mandate we all use phasers, for all the science fiction going on with this bill.
"It's not retrofitted?  Well, citizen, you cannot leave it to your heirs, you must turn it in to the State."

Note the wonders of the only current 'smart gun' available:
...Enter Armatix, which has developed a firearm that can determine, with 90 percent accuracy, whether a gun was being held by a person wearing a watch meant to pair with the firearm.
It's not 'smart', it has to receive a signal from a watch which must be WITHIN TEN INCHES of the gun.  And it still fails to work 10% of the time... just the thing to trust your life to, right?

Have to use your weak hand?  Your screwed.  Don't wear it at night?  You're screwed.  Watch gets broken, or the battery dies, or something interferes with the signal?  You're screwed.  Very smart indeed.
