He listened sympathetically.

Then he told me. “Ken,” he told me, “if your reaction to a proposal is “HOLY SHIT, THAT SOUNDS LIKE FUN,” then as a government lawyer and member of law enforcement, you almost certainly shouldn’t be doing it.”
Yeah, I'd have to agree with that.

Yup. I work in civil litigation, and we have about the same rule. "Holy shit, that sounds like fun!" is probably a waste of the client's money.

The only exception that I can think of is the time I had the opportunity to go 4x4ing all over West Texas surveying wildfire damage and then going out the next day, taking the doors off of a helicopter and documenting it all on video from about 50 feet up and at 60 knots.

And we had a serious discussion about whether or not we really needed to do that before we did.
