This is the kind of crap the hoplophobes dearly want to see here

Police raided the Society for Preservation of Japanese Art Swords and three other locations Wednesday on suspicion of illegally possessing some 400 unregistered samurai swords, police said.

The society voluntarily submitted the swords, excluding decomposed ones, after finding 592 of mostly rusty Japanese swords without registration cards in February and March last year when they checked storage areas for repair work, the society said. Under the Swords and Firearms Control Law, owners are required to have their swords registered as art objects at prefectural boards of education.
Got that? It's basically a friggin' museum, but Deity Forbid they have something that isn't registered with the gummint; that's just not tolerable!

What the hoplophobes want: objects blamed for and banned for what people do; partly because "It's just right!" and largely because it makes people easier to control.

Rust blue and the Martini receiver

So I disassembled the Martini, stripped and degreased the receiver, did a little light cleanup with 220-grit wet/dry paper(wet, of course), washed it again and then hit it with the browning formula. Waited a couple of hours and hit it again, then let it sit overnight. Got a nice light rust so boiled it, then carded with steel wool and repeated. This is after three cycles and soaking with oil after the last
The rusting was much more even than with the other mix, and this is MUCH more even color than before. Quite happy with it.

For what it's worth, my clean & degrease process was to put it in a small tub with mineral spirits and work it all over with a toothbrush to get rid of oil and grease, then after it dried washed with Dawn and warm water. Then to the glass plate and abrasive, then wash again with Dawn and start the rusting. I do wear gloves whenever using the spirits and when washing just before starting the bluing. When cleaning the piece off after boiling I didn't wear gloves, in this case for the final scrub used my fingers inside the receiver to hold it. Yes, it would be better to wear gloves whenever handling it.

Added: Few days back I was baking a revolver in the oven to soak grease into the parkerizing; today I was boiling a receiver on the stove. I ever get serious about a lady again, she's going to have to have a tolerance for crap like this. As first wife used to answer "What's that smell?", "Firehand is baking knives/gun parts/something again."

If you have a Beretta Neo,

check this out: recall has been issued
Beretta U.S.A. Corp. has discovered a potential condition with Beretta .22 caliber NEOS semiautomatic pistols in which the pistol will fire even if the safety is activated and, in some cases, the pistols may fire if the safety is moved from the OFF to the ON position. Chances of either of these situations occurring is extremely remote and no injuries have occurred because of this condition, however, because of safety concerns relating to this situation, Beretta U.S.A. Corp. is immediately implementing a recall of Beretta .22 caliber NEOS semiautomatic pistols. For more information, download a pdf copy of the Recall Notice.

Among the reasons I started calling the place Californicated

is that they hire clowns and criminals like this, make laws that prevent them from firing the bastards, and the bastards just keep going when they're caught.
In December 2008, CARB enacted a sweeping set of regulations of diesel engines. It was based on the claim that 3,500 deaths a year occurred from the diesel particulates in the air [PM 2.5]. Not only was the claim itself proven to be bogus, [zer∅ deaths per year*] the person in charge of the CARB “study” was revealed to have purchased his cum laude doctorate online for a measly $1,000. His name is Hien Tran. CARB can not fire him, or even re-assign him [say, to filing or mens’ room cleaning] because of CA labor laws and public union regulations.
...
Well the CARB morons have been caught again. [see also: need for free press]

[CARB] grossly miscalculated pollution levels in a scientific analysis used to toughen the state’s clean-air standards ...by 340 percent.

...The staff of the powerful [oh yeah] and widely respected [is that a bend-of-the-knee I see?] Air Resources Board said the overestimate is largely due to the board calculating emissions before the economy slumped…

Independent researchers, however, found huge overestimates in the air board’s work on diesel emissions and attributed the flawed work to a faulty method of calculation - not the economic downturn.

Imagine the result in private industry if one’s research turned out to be “miscalculated” by 340%?

Mary Nichols, chairwoman of the California Air Resources Board, ...was recently asked why the air board estimate of a nitrous oxide source was off by at least a factor of two - air board scientists have since revised their numbers, and data show the estimate was off by 340 percent. Nichols’ response: “I can’t answer that for you.”

And the enviroweenie bastards want desperately to force this crap on all of us; and most of them don't seem to give a damn whether the 'facts' they use are true or not.

Can you imagine how it felt

when that drill broke through?

Ain't it the truth?

Some serious questions about the lake shooting

Bunch of information at Malkin's place.

So what IS going on?

In your opinion, how much of this is bullshit and how much

is threats from Pakistan?

So if you have a Citi credit card, you need to be aware

that they are not your friend. Or the friend of ANY business related to firearms.
I contacted Citi's media wing to attempt to get their side of the story. Elizabeth Fogarty, Citi Public Affairs answered with the following prepared statement:

"Citi does not prohibit the financing of firearms purchases by individuals nor the financing of businesses that manufacture and sell them to individuals for recreational use. However, we do prohibit financing merchants in the non-ancillary military equipment industry, including the financing of businesses that manufacture and or sell firearms for military use. While we do not discuss individual credit applications, we are always open to reviewing particular decisions when appropriate to ensure the policy is applied correctly."

Unfamiliar with the term "non-ancillary military equipment," I asked for clarification. The response was that "the policy prohibits financing businesses that manufacture and/or sell firearms for military use."

Somehow, I feel the story doesn't end here. As always, we'll keep you posted
.

As Insty says, the People's Republic of China is still run

by a bunch of murdering commies. Who like to make inconvenient people disappear, including from history.

And hey, Nobel Committee, if you'd given him this prize last year instead of using it to polish Obama's ass, maybe it would have done some good, y'know?

Like Tam says, are they TRYING

to start the fight?

As I recall, Mother Jones wasn't too bothered

when the Clintons got hold of a bunch of FBI records they had no business seeing, either.

Did Goolsbee get Koch tax info? Don't know; this is one of those things that 'If there's a question, the answer HAS to be found, positively yes or no'. There's enough bullshit in the tax system and records now, we cannot allow politicians to play games with it; if Goolsbee or anyone else did, they SHOULD be prosecuted.

"Uh, Jack..."

Breakables/RCOB warning in effect

Go here. Go to the linked post. Be ready to add to the list of people who are in line for tar and feathers.

This kind of crap IS going to get somebody killed, I have no question.

Ok, so when did the VFW turn into a supporter of progressive politicians

who piss on the troops?
Last night, we received an interesting email from Bev Perlson, who heads the Band of Mothers

group. She's got an awesome email list that is good for keeping up on what's going on around the country.

What was so disturbing was the email listed someone we all know- LTC(r) Allen West, and how the VFW, of all people, THE VEE-EFF-FRICKING-W, was ENDORSING HIS OPPONENT.

You read that right.

His opponent? Democrat Ron Klein. WHO HAS NEVER SERVED IN UNIFORM.

You read THAT right, too.
...
As you may recall, when I returned from Iraq one of the first things I did was join VFW and Legion as 'life members'. Now, it seems, the time has come to rip, burn, and toss my Lifetime Membership for the VFW. I feel like they have completely left us at the station here. Over at the Farm Team, Jonn Lilyea lays out just who the VFW has announced they are supporting:

Barbara Boxer, Alcee Hastings, Barbara Lee, Steny Hoyer, Barbara Mikulsky, Chris VanHollen, John Dingell, Chuckie Schumer, Pat Leahy and Patty Murray

In addition, they support Perlmutter over Bailey (former USAF) Frazier (former Navy) for Colorado; to their credit, they do support Mike Coffman (Marine) in his race in CO. But the rest of the list is disgusting. To me, it reads they are 'supporting' or 'endorsing' only those they see as WINNING. It appears they don't give a RATS ASS who supports vets or who WAS a vet.

I think I'll ass this along to the son, and advise him NOT to join VFW.

Rust bluing, start to finish *addition

with a new(old) formula.

Not long ago I found, while going through some papers, an old formula for browning steel. In the case of browning you’re rusting the piece appropriately and then brushing the rust off and oiling it to produce the finish, whereas with rust-bluing you rust the piece appropriately and then boil it(repeat as needed); but in both cases you need something to promote rust, so I decided to try this formula instead of the one I used to blue the Martini.

Test piece:
this is an old knife blank somebody gave me more years ago than I care to think about. It’s a plain 1095 carbon steel so it’s a good test piece. I started by taking it down to a nice bright 120-grit finish on the belt sander.

No, I did not take it all the way to 320, for the purpose of the test 120 will work just fine. And I’m lazy.

My old directions stated “Degrease, apply the solution with a cotton pad or cotton ball(I seem to remember a guy saying he grabbed whichever with a clothes pin, and just dumped the cotton after use), let sit a few hours. Apply a second coat, then leave until rusty.” So I got a cotton makeup pad(shut up, they have LOTS of uses) and wiped the stuff on, then about two hours later hit it again. Here’s how it looked the next day, not quite 24 hours later
Nice even coat of light rust, so I boiled it a few minutes, then wiped it down with steel wool to card off the loose stuff. Here’s how it looked after
With a bit of oil it’d have looked pretty good, but I’m giving it a second coat(as it were). Here’s how it looked 24 hours after the second treatment,
Very even coat of light rust. Here it is after boiling

This time I went ahead and oiled it to see just how it would look
Not bad at all.

I gave it a third pass: degrease, wipe with solution, after a couple of hours wipe again(no picture this time; how much rust you need to see?), leave overnight. Again got a nice, even coat of light rust. Boiled it a few minutes, wiped off under running water with steel wool, dried and oiled, and here's the result:
Gave a very nice, even color. Had I taken it to a 240 or 320 finish, would've been downright bright. Like regular hot-bluing, surface prep is a big factor in how nicely it comes out, although anything above 320 is a waste with this process(you can take it down to a mirror finish with hot-bluing).

That's the process; nothing mysterious, just takes some preparation and some time.

I think I may clean up that Martini receiver and see if I get better results with this mix.

Added: I have been reminded I forgot to say what the mix is.
The mix in question below my
DISCLAIMER!
This involves the use of acids. Get careless with them and you can get burns, you can damage your eyes, if you inhale acid fumes it can do nasty things to your lungs and other passages. If you decide to mix the stuff up, it's your own responsibility and use all precautions.
The solution is simple:
1 part nitric acid
1 part hydrochloric(muriatic) acid
12 parts water
Mix the above, put them in a container the solution won't eat/rust out/make brittle over time so it cracks and leaks.

Light posting last few days, mix of busy and just not feeling like typing a lot

Still not that fond of it, but there's a lot of stuff I want to point to. Which probably translates to "I can stop anytime I want!(no you can't, dumbass) In any case,
The NRA is supposed to be focused on "Who is a friend of the 2nd", that doesn't bother me; what bothers me is idiocy like this:
If anyone thinks supporting this proven gun-grabber is the best course for the Republic (and the best inducement for the Republicans to stop with the betrayals, although why they would feel compelled to if they're rewarded anyway is a valid argument), I won't waste my time trying to dissuade you. Although I will point out he apparently doesn't feel your support is worth crowing about... What I will say is, to endorse GUN CONFISCATOR Dan Lungren and not endorse faithful gun rights supporter Sharron Angle points to a disconnect in the NRA grading system that is not only illogical, one might even consider it fraudulent.
Fraudulent or flat stupid; either one covers it.

So with this group, instead of "We'll kill you if you don't support our AGW ideas", it's "If you don't support us, YOU'RE murdering children":

Ah, Napolitano, this really is pretty simple: if she's here illegally, you throw her ass out. C'mon, how difficult is that?

Interesting things happening and questions about what Castro & Co. are up to.

Well, if you had the money wouldn't you build a submarine?

You've got some people actually worried about doing their job right, but the wording of some of this tells me TurboTax Geithner is mostly worried that if people find out just what Obama & Co.'s bullcrap is going to cost them before the election...

I've been running a test on some rust-bluing stuff, I hope to post it later today. For now, 'bye

He may or may not be a lousy artist, but at least he has to balls

to go after Mohammed. At least a little bit.

As to the rest? 'Edgy' is insulting Jesus and so forth? Please.

I'm going to change the wording of this a bit

No, this video was made by green supremacists themselves, and with a high degree of technical proficiency. As 10:10 itself observed in a statement (since removed from its website), the video required the efforts of "50+ film professionals and 40+ actors and extras." Blogger David Burge notes that "somehow, throughout this entire process, not one of the hundreds of people involved seemed to have questioned the wisdom of an advertising message advocating the violent, sudden death of people who disagree with it."

One may hope that Jim Edwards is right when he denies that "this is actually what environmentalists want." But it's bad enough that this is what they fantasize about--and that they manifestly felt no inhibition about airing such a depraved fantasy in public
.
I'm going to put it more bluntly and correctly: ...have questioned the wisdom of an advertising message advocating the murder of people who disagree with it.
Because that's exactly what this was: "Anyone who doesn't go along with the plan will be murdered." ...not one of the hundreds of people involved seemed to have questioned the wisdom of an advertising message advocating the violent, sudden death of people who disagree with it." I'm guessing because they think it's a good idea, and didn't realize that it would be such a shocking admission that even a lot of AGW supporters would be disgusted by it.

We have indeed met the enemy, and they are watermelons.

I got curious and looked; yeah, the National Education Association

does recommend Alinsky to teachers, and has a long "Here is a wonderful man!" review of it. Great, isn't it?

Surprisingly, the OEA doesn't have Alinsky recommended on their own site; however, when you search for the Oklahoma Education Association the first place you get to IS the NEA site, which then links to the OEA site, and since the Alinsky recommendation is on the NEA site...

While we're on the subject of idiots in law enforcement,

Mustapha's participation in the Citizen's Academy so soon after his identification as an unindicted co-conspirator has been a source of supreme embarrassment to the FBI. At first, outraged citizens who called the Bureau's Washington headquarters to complain were told that reports of Mustapha's inclusion in a sensitive-access FBI program were false -- and even that a picture showing Mustapha with other participants (see Pat Poole's Big Peace report) must have been photo-shopped. Alas, that story had a couple of holes: The class picture was an official Bureau photo and the class had been covered by a local ABC correspondent who remembered the sheikh quite well.
So the Effin'BI flat lied to the public. Repeatedly.
Thus came explanation number two: Yes, Mustapha was there, and yeah, maybe that means we took a Hamas supporter through a few top-secret locations, but don't look at us -- blame Chicago. Headquarters thus started referring irate callers to the Chicago field office, where {FBI Chicago flack] Mr. [Ross] Rice now labors through explanation number three: Sheikh Mustapha is our guy.
A: Since when does the EFFIN'BI HEADQUARTERS get told what to do by ANY field office?
B: They actually expect us to BELIEVE this crap?

Come again? Rice dutifully explains that if the Feebs had really thought the unindicted Hamas coconspirator "was a security risk, we wouldn't have included him." But he was included because "he is a very influential leader of the Palestinian community here and imam of the largest mosque and was a welcome addition."

A 'welcome addition' to WHAT, you idiot? You just gave a guy with direct ties to terrorists a tour of the National Counterterrorism Center AND the Effin'BI training center!

I repeat: who's giving these morons badges and FBI cards? And why do they still have them?

Is there something in a lot of police department's training that says

you get extra points if you shoot a dog? How fucking idiotic IS this?

And then they show up and 'apologize'? Asshole, if it was an actual justifiable shooting then you have nothing to apologize for; that you show up with this tells us you KNOW your people screwed up.
As officers circled the house, they saw the back door open and thought an intruder was inside, Thomason said. At that point, Gloria allegedly growled and barked at the officers, and one of the officers fired three rounds, all of which hit the dog - at least one in the head.
Damn, a dog growls and barks at strangers in the yard? Gee, why didn't you ticket the family for having an unlicensed attack dog or something?

Who keeps giving these clowns badges? And telling them they did right after something like this?

Oh yeah, sooner or later somebody's going to get hurt;

if we're unlucky they'll start killing their victims, if we're lucky the victims will start killing THEM.
What is ‘polar bear hunting’?

It’s a racist assault by blacks(mostly young men) on whites(mostly men of any age). Most often it involves more than one attacker on a lone victim, and usually from behind with no warning.

In the Champaign, Ill. area “the number of reports of beatings to white men in Champaign appear to be coming in quicker than police can even process them.”

The most recent attack was this past Friday night on a lone man walking home after a high school football game
.
Have you heard anything on the nightly news about this racist garbage? Me neither. Gee, I wonder why?

Here's the statement from a victim that sets me off:
And he's nervous that an attacker or an innocent bystander is going to be killed by a victim who might be armed.
Well, God-DAMMIT, you think MAYBE? A little different angle, Mr. Sola, and you'd be minus an eye. People have already damn near died from this crap, and you're worried about an ATTACKER getting hurt? You moron.
Her son was admitted to Carle's intensive care unit for bleeding in the brain, multiple broken bones in his face, a concussion and multiple cuts inside his mouth from being kicked. His friend thought when Molloy's son hit his head on the curb, the attackers may have thought he was dead and ran off.
Put bluntly, you wind up with some dead attackers and it might do something to help stop this crap.

And no, I don't care if they're teenagers; they set out to beat people, possibly cripple or kill them for fun and they deserve anything that happens to them.

So they're using Predators and Hellfires to take out terrorists in Pakistan

and still worried as hell about Mumbai-style attacks in major European cities. And I just heard on a news report that the White House says "Nothing to worry about here in the US."

After that statement of "Don't worry", anybody else feel the need to load a couple of extra magazines?

The first question is WHY the hell does the university have a

coordinator for social justice education in the Office of Student Involvement in the first place?

Second question, how much money is it costing to keep this PC idiocy going?

Third question, you're going to force him to bake cookies for a customer he doesn't want?

And the city is apparently so flush with money, has every problem so under control, that they can waste time and money on this crap? Time for some tax cuts, then.

Sunday, October 03, 2010

I know the 'progressives' won't, but I wonder if the Democrats will ever get tired

of their current tactic of "If you don't agree with us, you're a bigot/racist!" ?
The very idea of it made them angry. "I'm particularly offended by these people who want to take the nation back," said Maida Odom, who came to the rally from Philadelphia on board a bus chartered by the National Union of Hospital and Health Care Employees/ AFSCME Local 1199. "I'm saddened that people haven't risen above their bigotry. If you read the Republican Contract with America, you can see the bigotry in between every line."
Yeah, a desire for smaller government and lower taxes, how much more bigoted can you get?

Do they remove a reasoning part of their brain before they say crap like this?

If you're having trouble finding the enviroweene snuff film

might try here, it's still working.

As for the "Hey, it was just a joke! Just funny!" stuff,
What to do with those people, who are together threatening everybody's existence on this planet? Clearly we don't really think they should be blown up, that's just a joke for the mini-movie, but maybe a little amputating would be a good place to start?"
Ha ha. Funny. Yeah.

Want to try your amputation skills out? First, meet Ms. Benelli. Ho ho ho. That'll be funny.

Added: from Ms. Andrea:
By the way — no, it’s not satire in the great British tradition of Monty Python or even in Curtis’ own Blackadder; those shows poked fun at authority, conformity, and stupidity. This video celebrates authority: the ones who get the red button are 1) a teacher, 2) a member of upper management if not the CEO of a company, 3) a group of footballers against one lone man, and 4) a soundman at the control booth of a studio where Gillian Andersen’s character is behind glass, vulnerable to a seat rigged with explosives. Where is the authority and the conformity being mocked? Some might say that the piece mocks the stupidity of going against such an “obvious” problem as climate change, but how is killing the supposedly “stupid” people supposed to bring them around to the “correct” viewpoint? The answer is that it isn’t; the 10:10 group isn’t interested in changing anyone’s mind, only eliminating those who aren’t on board, and if you aren’t already on board that means you have already been placed in the ranks of the unredeemable. In a way this goes beyond conventional totalitarian movements, who at least seek to bring dissenters into the fold instead of just killing them at the first sign of dissent. (bold mine)
