I have new glasses, having had to go to bifocals,

and it's a pain. Getting used to these is going to take a while. So I'm already annoyed, and I read this:
US authorities are understandably concerned that the same terrorists may also be targeting this country, since visa-free travel allows European passport holders to come to the United States on short notice.

One way to keep these terrorists out of the country is to heighten border scrutiny of Europeans and Americans who’ve traveled to Pakistan and spent months there without visible means of support. To do that, of course, border authorities need to know who’s been traveling in and out of Pakistan. Then they can use that information to flag visitors for additional questioning.

So how is the European Commission helping the US get the information it needs to protect itself from European terrorists trained in Pakistan?

It’s not. In fact, it’s campaigning to make sure we never get it
.
Speaking of which,
British Muslims training with al-Qaeda were planning an armed rampage through London as part of a terrorist spectacular aimed at European capitals, sources told the Daily Telegraph.

It is thought that the group was in the final stages of its preparations for co-ordinated attacks, thought to be on the capital cities of Britain, France and Germany.
...
The CIA launched a series of attacks against militants in the area using unmanned Predator drones armed with Hellfire missiles.

A senior al-Qaeda commander from Egypt, was killed in North Waziristan, disrupting the planned attacks
.
and
A terror plot to launch murderous Mumbai-style attacks in UK cities has been disrupted by the security services.

Intelligence sources revealed that militants based in Pakistan, thought to be linked to al Qaeda, were planning simultaneous strikes on London and other European cities.

The attacks would have been similar to the commando-style raids carried out in Mumbai in 2008 which killed 166 innocent people, sources said.
...
American forces have intensified missile strikes against militants in Pakistan from unmanned drones this month, suggesting they were pre-empting an attack.

The latest plot is believed to target the UK, France and Germany, and was unearthed after intelligence sharing between spy agencies from all three countries and the U.S
.
So we're helping keep the attacks from happening to them, and the EU says "Screw you" about giving us information to keep it from happening here. You can guess what I have to say to the EU.

Ah, our President; school choice for him and people with lots of money, screw people who don't: "I've got to keep the union happy and that's more important than your kids."
In the fall of 2008, 216 new low-income students were notified by the Department of Education that they had been selected to receive scholarships. These kids had their winning lottery tickets in hand. Then President Barack Obama was elected with the help of the National Education Association and the American Federation of Teachers. At the behest of Obama’s union allies, Secretary of Education Arne Duncan sent letters to the 216 families informing them that he was taking back the $7,500 in scholarship money that the D.C. Opportunity Scholarship program had previously awarded them. In other words, President Barack Obama tore up their winning lottery tickets.

That's it for now, stuff to do.

I've a lot more questions about a potential Mumbai style attack, than I've got fully formed thoughts.

Is there good intelligence penetration of the groups? or, are the groups just bunches of muppets getting dragged along by an agent provocateur, gradually ripening them until there is the political need for another "victory", at which point they get busted?

A Mumbai style attack in London? They're effed if it happens. It's likely the bad boys were watching and taking notes when the "Only Ones" were crashing their cars into each other on Rothbury's main street.

On the intelligence sharing, that sounds like political horse trading, although European socialists always looked far more to Moscow than they did to the US, and they've not changed.

Glasses,
Hate the bloody things. I'm about ready for some bi-focals too. My arms are getting a bit short...

You think that bifocals are a pain in the butt, try trifocals, especially when trying to shoot a handgun. I never could get used to which lens to look through, it took so long, I was glad that my life didn't depend on getting a quick shot off.
