Just as an excuse to post this again,
in a discussion at James' place involving surplus firearms, a guy asks "Are all M-N safeties this hard to operate?", which brought to mind "What's a safety?"

It brings to mind a joke I'd heard about most Russkie guns (in you best Boris and Natasha accent), "Is gun, is supposed to be dangerous!"
