I should mention that an amazing thing happened

I found the lost knife. Which is bloody shocking, usually something like that disappears it's gone forever.

Of course, it was found after I'd ordered and received a similar one. The new one has the Auto-Lawk, which I don't like, but I figured out how to disconnect the Auto and make it a manual, so I've got a spare.

Six years ago my son died. Going through his stuff, we found a small paper board box taped shut and labeled "For Dad's 63d b-day.) So I opened it on my 63d. It contained a Benchmade McHenry & Williams #710 folding knife. I looked it up on Benchmade's website to learn a bit about it.

5" long closed, 8 7/8" open, HS tool steel blade w/ combination blade, Axis lock, openable and closeable ambidextrously and one handed. Made in the U.S.A.

It came from the factory frighteningly sharp. I've used it the last 2 1/2 years and not needed to touch up the edge. I can still actually shave with it. A tad uncomfortable, and not quite the right shape, but it cuts beard hair and doesn't pull. Mostly I've cut packing tape, cleaned fish and cut string and kindling with it. Twice I've offered it to someone to cut something and gotten frightened gasps.

There are people out there who fear knives. I think they are generally referred to as "Englishmen" "Candy Asses" or "Pansies".

Anyway, I've never liked the Tanto style blade. The Benchmark M&W 710 is knife shaped. And useful.

Congratulations! And now you have a spare should parts or replacement again be necessary :).

Cool beans! Finding a lost knife is like having Xmas all over again, with the reassurance that you're not crazy, you did have the thing once before! While I'm not a big fan of tanto blades (PITA to sharpen, but maybe that's just me), they do look cool.

Gerry, that's a lovely piece; he had good taste.

Not real fond of the tanto shape myself, but as a 'take the place of' it was the least expensive I could find from that company. And it's not 440 stainless, like so many. The one I lost & found has a spear-point blade I much prefer.
