Parker suggested that Palin is indeed a "poster girl for racism," though "not consciously," and alluded to white racism being incited by a white woman and black man being pitted against each other, as in Sarah Palin versus Barack Obama, or in the novel To Kill a Mockingbird.
She also goes on to say

I've had some questions about the son,
so I thought I'd catch that up.
You might remember a few months ago when he transferred to a base here in the US where his wife was stationed. As mentioned, he flew in here, spent the night and then drove to said base. LONG damn drive.
Late that night he called. He'd arrived, found a room and called the wife. Who informed him that she was out with friends, and could he meet her at the notary in the morning to sign divorce papers?
I'll let you imagine how that went over.
We spent a while talking, then both of us tried to get some sleep. Next day, he met her and the only response he could get to 'why?' and 'maybe we can fix this' was "I feel we've grown apart, and I don't think we can make it better." That's it. So he read the papers very damn carefully and signed them, and walked away.
What makes this crap even more fun? According to the dates, she started filling the stuff out in June of last year. Just before he was home on leave, well before he was home for Christmas, and she never said a damned word.
When he told me about the dates, I said that if she was willing to screw him over this way then, small comfort that it might be right now, he's better off without her.
In the time since it became final, her unit transferred out so he doesn't have to worry about running into her, and he's been very damn busy. Sometime in the near future they're going to the National Training Center for a while, so they're preparing for that as well as doing the usual stuff. Busy is good right now.
Every time I've received a well-wishing message I've passed them on to him, and he's appreciated them, and back when he asked for books and such many sent those(and the books were passed on to others who VERY much appreciated them) so for those of you sending and thinking of him I thought I ought to bring you up to date.

Also, the Joker seemed chaotic but was very careful in his planning, while the chaos from the Obama administration seems much more explainable by pure incompetence.
Rep. Russ Carnahan(Evil Party-MO) set up a 'town hall meeting' to pick his audience, and some of his supporters attack tea party protesters. Wonderful people he has supporting him, what?
Kenneth Gladney, a 38-year-old conservative activist from St. Louis, said he was attacked by some of those arrested as he handed out yellow flags with “Don't tread on me” printed on them. He spoke to the Post-Dispatch from the emergency room of the St. John's Mercy Medical Center, where he said he was waiting to be treated for injuries to his knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face that he suffered in the attack. Gladney, who is black, said one of his attackers, also a black man, used a racial slur against him before the attack started.
Hmmm, Pelosi lies about protesters being nazis, but a real multiple murderer was an Obama supporter...
Other Evil Party members have discovered that calling voters 'un-American' for protesting does one thing: it pisses them off even more. I can't remember where that line in the Bible is about 'you can't serve two masters'; those trying to make Pelosi and Reid happy while crapping on the people who actually vote, well, I think they're figuring out some of the problems with trying to serve two. Or, in the case of some of them, serve Pelosi and Reid and Obama while pretending to serve the people.

I got to the "public" townhall sponsored by Rep. Kathy Castor and the SEIU an hour and a half before the doors were scheduled to open. Apparently, it would not have mattered when I arrived. We stood out in the 90 plus degree weather only to be told that that the hall had been filled through a side door and no one else would be let in.

At one point someone in an Obama shirt opened the door that I was standing right in front of. Standing just inside was a union member that is affiliated with my employer. He saw me and took my picture.

A group of things to end the evening
A pretty good roundup of the birth certificate questions and theories.
I'll add something to what Sabrepoint has to say: the Democrats aren't mentioning that the protesters are ripping the ass off Stupid Party politicians, too; they don't care much about party, they care about who's got their hand in this mess they're trying to shove down our throats.
Drunk bees? Quite possible. I've read of elephants getting drunk after eating fruit(marula was mentioned) that was overripe; their digestive tract is inefficient enough that it would ferment in their system. One guy said something like "Think about already bad-natured trouble-making elephants drunk. Then imagine running into them the next morning when they're hungover."
From what son told me about a couple of the storms, sounds about right:
Could the Obama Administration be violating the law in their snitch program? Quite possibly. Think that would stop it?
Kevin notes that on this date in 1945 the first atomic bomb to be used in war, one of only two so used(up to this point) was dropped.
The two atomic blasts killed between 250,000 and 300,000 people, but they ended the war. Estimates of American casualties alone, had we invaded the Japanese Home Islands, were on the order of 1 million. Japanese casualties, given the grim statistics of Iwo Jima, Saipan, and Okinawa, would have been at least 3-5 times higher, and would have included women, children, and old men.
Actually, it probably would have been worse. Few years ago Downfall was published, the author having access to stuff only recently declassified. It seems that after the war ended and we went into Japan it turned out they had a LOT more men, equipment and supplies saved back than our intelligence knew; the invasion would have been a lot worse than they'd figured on, and as Kevin notes that was pretty bad. Their troops on Okinawa were not expected to actually hold the island; they were expected to cost us as many dead, wounded and crippled as possible to discourage us. They expected to do the same on a much larger scale if we started the invasion to try to force a negotiated settlement.
And let's not forget something else: Japanese POW camps had orders that, when notified the invasion had begun, they were to kill every allied prisoner The nukes prevented that, too.
And, just to mention a fine place to look, The View from North Central Idaho, the Boomershoot guy's place.

So they called Poision Control for some advice, and were told they could take him to the hospital but only if he was exhibiting symptoms.
"They told us to monitor him and that's what we did," said Becca.
A short time later, Becca says the police arrived and said they would arrest them if they didn't take Talin to the hospital.
"I said, of course we'll go right now."
Once they got to Northern Suburban Medical Center, a drug screening showed Talin did not have any drugs in his system.
But Adams County Social Services took Talin and Journey into protective custody anyway.
The children had been in foster care for five days before the county scheduled a custody hearing on Tuesday.
Torn away from their parents and stuck in foster care. Isn't that just so wonderful and caring?
A spokesperson for Adams County said he could not comment on the matter because the case involves children. But he did say, "whenever there's any reason to think a child may have been put in danger, the county is on the side of the child until the investigation is complete."
In court, the judge granted the children's grandparents temporary custody, while they wait for the results of a second drug test on the child.
A second drug test? For what? Since he's been in foster care he's been given drugs, or are they fishing for something to use against the parents?
That's a big relief for the parents, who never thought doing the right thing for your child--could go so wrong.

Palin's attorney sent Griffin a letter asking him if he would rather be served with a summons at home or at work, giving Griffin a choice. However, the lefty Alaskan bloggers have seized on that to scream that Palin's attorney is going to serve Griffin right in front of the kindergartners that he teaches.
Never mind school's not in session, etc., "We can use this to try to hurt Palin!" seems to be their reaction to ANYTHING.
I'm guessing a whole bunch of people are getting very nervous about this. Reihl and McCain are both posting on this, and digging deeper and deeper. This is going to get real interesting.

Some are pointing out slight problems with Mary Robinson
getting the Medal of Freedom; mostly they've been pointing at her hostility toward Israel in particular and Jews in general. I would point out that she's also been very big on disarming the peasantsbanning guns. All in the name of 'saving the CHILLLDDREEEENNN! and women and old people, of course; and who could be against that except the evil arms merchants and gun nuts, etc. And think about the control she wants to give the UN over every country in the world to be able to run her ideas.

"I'm not ready, I'm not ready to die," the Springfield woman said. "I've got things I'd still like to do."
Her doctor offered hope in the new chemotherapy drug Tarceva, but the Oregon Health Plan sent her a letter telling her the cancer treatment was not approved.
Instead, the letter said, the plan would pay for comfort care, including "physician aid in dying," better known as assisted suicide.
Of course, we're told that she's 'misinterpreting' what she was told:
Dr. Som Saha, chairman of the commission that sets policy for the Oregon Health Plan, said Wagner is making an "unfortunate interpretation" of the letter and that no one is telling her the health plan will only pay for her to die.

Saha said state health officials do not consider whether it is cheaper for someone in the health plan to die than live. However, he admitted they must consider the state's limited dollars when dealing with a case such as Wagner's.
"If we invest thousands and thousands of dollars in one person's days to weeks, we are taking away those dollars from someone," Saha said.

Even for those with advanced cancer, new chemotherapy drugs can extend life.

"We are looking at today's ... 2008 treatment, but we're using 1993 standards," Fryefield said. "When the Oregon Health Plan was created, it was 15 years ago, and there were not all the chemotherapy drugs that there are today."
But, of course, if the FEDERAL government takes over your health care, it will always be perfectly up to speed and efficient... excuse me, I hear oinking and wing noises outside the windows.

And since this would require a federal database of all vehicles owned and by who so they can know exactly who to tax by the mile, it would be simple to add 'destination' into the tracking. Especially for people who are annoying them by calling this kind of crap what it is.

that's a GOOD thing?
In the past five years, I have had problems with my kidneys, liver, and pancreas due to the huge number of drugs I took for so long. I am now a diabetic due to that damage. I have bone spurs in my spine brought on from the steroid shots I received for years at the hands of the VA to help me manage the pain of my injury.
I just called on a new neurosurgeon last week. He will be operating to fix some of those bone spurs in my neck next week. From the time I had the MRI done to recovery room will be just under two months.
Two months.
Two months versus nine years of working through a government medical care program. One that made the lives of not only myself but also my wife and family utterly miserable for years.
If anyone thinks that the government running health care is a good idea, remember all the horror stories that you have heard about how the VA takes care of America’s heroes.
Remember that at least ten thousand vets at VA hospitals across the southeast had to be tested for HIV and hepatitis because the VA medical centers couldn’t follow the instructions on how to clean equipment, and that at least fifty have been infected because of that.
Remember that the Philadelphia VA medical center mismanaged the prostate cancer treatments of almost a hundred vets. And the list goes on and on.
And remember this story, too.

AG Eric Holder acting unethically in the Justice Department?
Appointing unqualified people? Who'd have expected such a thing?(Yes, I know, put your hand down; that's sarcasm, people)
Both in Congress and among a number of current and former Justice Department employees is a growing concern that the Obama administration is politicizing the department in ways the Bush team never imagined. A former Justice employee cautions that every administration has the right and the obligation to set policy. "Elections have consequences," he affirms. But he thinks that the Obama administration has gone beyond policy reversals and is interfering with prosecutorial decisions, staffing the department with unqualified personnel, and invoking privilege to thwart proper congressional oversight and public scrutiny.

While some conservatives doubted that the man who helped facilitate the Marc Rich pardon and overrode the recommendation of career attorneys to give Bill Clinton a favorable recommendation on the pardon of 16 Puerto Rican terrorists in 1999 could live up to those pretty sentiments, he was confirmed by a vote of 75-21 with the support of many Republican senators.
Holder soon cast aside his confirmation rhetoric in favor of partisan politics. The first battle occurred over the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC), the elite group within the Justice Department that wrestles with difficult constitutional analysis and acts as the constitutional arbitrator for the entire administration. During his confirmation hearing Holder specifically pledged,
We don't change OLC opinions simply because a new administration takes over. The review that we would conduct would be a substantive one and reflect the best opinions of probably the best lawyers in the department as to where the law would be, what their opinions should be. It will not be a political process, it will be one based solely on our interpretation of the law.
Within weeks, however, Holder violated that pledge when the issue of voting rights for the District of Columbia emerged. It had been a longstanding position of OLC, dating back to the Kennedy administration, that federal voting rights for the District could not constitutionally be granted by statute. This position did not sit well with the new Obama administration, or with Holder personally. After all, Holder has been a prominent figure in D.C. politics and was introduced at his confirmation hearing by a longtime friend and ally Eleanor Holmes Norton, the District's nonvoting representative and a key proponent of D.C. voting rights.
Presented with OLC's settled position, Holder opted to shop around for another opinion. He went to the solicitor general, asking a lower threshold question, namely whether the solicitor general could "defend" the Obama administration if it signed a statute granting D.C. voting rights. Clint Bolick, a veteran of the Reagan Justice Department, observes, "I don't recall [another instance] when the Department of Justice went back to get a second answer, when you have a 'do over,' when the best lawyers come up with the 'wrong answer' from a policy perspective."
Another former Justice Department attorney finds the opinion shopping "extremely out of the ordinary." "[OLC] is the last word on constitutional issues," he explains. "Holder asked the wrong question to the wrong office and got an obvious, easy answer to satisfy his political agenda."

To Representative Frank Wolf, a moderate Republican from Northern Virginia, the "most egregious" action by Holder and the Obama administration concerns the disposition of detainees at Guantánamo Bay and Justice's interference with the flow of information from the FBI. His annoyance obvious, Wolf explains that he sent multiple letters to Holder asking a list of questions concerning the potential release of detainees, and in particular about the Uighurs, who news reports suggested at one point were about to be released in Northern Virginia. He was rebuffed: "I'm the ranking member, and I can't get them to answer a question." Wolf says that the Justice Department even went so far as to forbid FBI briefings with his office unless a Justice Department representative was present, which he terms "outrageous." He received one briefing from the FBI, but "then the political guy came in and chilled the entire meeting."

One cannot read through the correspondence without concluding that Holder's Justice Department is grasping at straws to defend a decision made for a purpose it wants to conceal. Positions never before used by the civil rights division have been tossed about, in contradiction of previous case law and department policy. While the Justice Department has cited the First Amendment rights of the Panthers, it had never before accepted such a defense in a case of voter intimidation. (Steve Rosenbaum himself once filed a voter intimidation claim against Jesse Helms and the North Carolina state Republican party for merely sending a postcard memo, normally quintessential protected political speech, which the department found misleading.) Observers remain baffled as to the reason for the dismissal. Some wonder if a Philadelphia politician weighed in. Others speculate that the Obama administration fears offending allies in the African-American community or simply recoiled against the notion that civil rights laws originally designed to prosecute white segregationists might be applied to a militant African-American organization.
Because you're only supposed to use it to prosecute white racists, I guess. And voter intimidation by politicially-correct thugs is ok to these bigots.
But, as one former Justice official notes, although charges of "political meddling" were constantly raised in the Bush administration, "to date the inspector general has never found a single case dropped or instituted due to political interference. Already [during the Obama administration] we have a case--the New Black Panther case--in which actual politicization occurred."

Both in Congress and among a number of current and former Justice Department employees is a growing concern that the Obama administration is politicizing the department in ways the Bush team never imagined. A former Justice employee cautions that every administration has the right and the obligation to set policy. "Elections have consequences," he affirms. But he thinks that the Obama administration has gone beyond policy reversals and is interfering with prosecutorial decisions, staffing the department with unqualified personnel, and invoking privilege to thwart proper congressional oversight and public scrutiny.

While some conservatives doubted that the man who helped facilitate the Marc Rich pardon and overrode the recommendation of career attorneys to give Bill Clinton a favorable recommendation on the pardon of 16 Puerto Rican terrorists in 1999 could live up to those pretty sentiments, he was confirmed by a vote of 75-21 with the support of many Republican senators.
Holder soon cast aside his confirmation rhetoric in favor of partisan politics. The first battle occurred over the Office of Legal Counsel (OLC), the elite group within the Justice Department that wrestles with difficult constitutional analysis and acts as the constitutional arbitrator for the entire administration. During his confirmation hearing Holder specifically pledged,
We don't change OLC opinions simply because a new administration takes over. The review that we would conduct would be a substantive one and reflect the best opinions of probably the best lawyers in the department as to where the law would be, what their opinions should be. It will not be a political process, it will be one based solely on our interpretation of the law.
Within weeks, however, Holder violated that pledge when the issue of voting rights for the District of Columbia emerged. It had been a longstanding position of OLC, dating back to the Kennedy administration, that federal voting rights for the District could not constitutionally be granted by statute. This position did not sit well with the new Obama administration, or with Holder personally. After all, Holder has been a prominent figure in D.C. politics and was introduced at his confirmation hearing by a longtime friend and ally Eleanor Holmes Norton, the District's nonvoting representative and a key proponent of D.C. voting rights.
Presented with OLC's settled position, Holder opted to shop around for another opinion. He went to the solicitor general, asking a lower threshold question, namely whether the solicitor general could "defend" the Obama administration if it signed a statute granting D.C. voting rights. Clint Bolick, a veteran of the Reagan Justice Department, observes, "I don't recall [another instance] when the Department of Justice went back to get a second answer, when you have a 'do over,' when the best lawyers come up with the 'wrong answer' from a policy perspective."
Another former Justice Department attorney finds the opinion shopping "extremely out of the ordinary." "[OLC] is the last word on constitutional issues," he explains. "Holder asked the wrong question to the wrong office and got an obvious, easy answer to satisfy his political agenda."

To Representative Frank Wolf, a moderate Republican from Northern Virginia, the "most egregious" action by Holder and the Obama administration concerns the disposition of detainees at Guantánamo Bay and Justice's interference with the flow of information from the FBI. His annoyance obvious, Wolf explains that he sent multiple letters to Holder asking a list of questions concerning the potential release of detainees, and in particular about the Uighurs, who news reports suggested at one point were about to be released in Northern Virginia. He was rebuffed: "I'm the ranking member, and I can't get them to answer a question." Wolf says that the Justice Department even went so far as to forbid FBI briefings with his office unless a Justice Department representative was present, which he terms "outrageous." He received one briefing from the FBI, but "then the political guy came in and chilled the entire meeting."
Commissars sitting in to control meetings? Who would have beli- oh, never mind.

They had to sit in these little folding chairs in the House basement, and listen to their staff members tell them what exactly is in this health-care reform bill, America's Affordable Health Choices Act. And they had to figure out what is it that we're going to vote on here.
"They had to figure out", huh? The Obama supporters have been screaming we need to vote NOW!!!(as in "Before the hicks back home get hold of you"), but they had no friggin' idea what they were voting on...
Achenbach: The amazing thing is that they couldn't even ask questions for two-and-a-half hours. They had to just listen. And they could write their questions down on a piece of paper and then later they went through all the questions one by one. This was a marathon session of about five hours interrupted by a procedural vote at 6:30. But this was pretty unusual.
Ryssdal: Theory being that they're going to have to go home and face their constituents on August recess pretty soon. And those constituents are going to ask some questions, and House members want to have the answers.
Achenbach: Not only is there a political component to this, this is a really complicated piece of legislation. They don't want to be accused of voting for something they haven't read. And I think they also genuinely understand it's historic, it's important, they want to get it right.
Considering a bunch of these clowns have been making excuses for why they wanted to vote for this, by the admission of this meeting, BEFORE they had any damned idea what was in it... tar and feathers time, folks.
Remember this crap when they come home and start lecturing you about what's good for you and why you should be happy to have Obama & Co. take over your health care. And tax your ass off to attempt to pay for it.

So Napolitano got permission to say 'terrorist'
again, probably to take some heat off. I'm sure some True Believer in the One pointed out that to an awful lot of hicks like me calling terrorist attacks a "man-caused disasters" and calling the war an "overseas contingency operation" is friggin' stupid; the kind of thing done by people far more worried about words than actually doing things("Doing things? That's so icky!")
But we can take reassurance that she also "...acknowledged an "increased presence" of homegrown extremism and called for increased cooperation on local, state and federal levels to thwart any potential attacks.
Unspoken was whether people pissed about taxes and military veterans are still considered man-made disaster creators. But it makes a good excuse for more control over the peas- er, people.
Asked whether homegrown terror risks have become a bigger threat than those overseas, Napolitano demurred.
"You actually want me to answer that question? And let the cover slip?"
"I don't know that you can rank them one or two," she said. "Both exist; they both must be dealt with. They are both things that we are concerned about and they're both things that we want Americans to be prepared about."
That's just very reassuring, isn't it?

1) If your treatment is considered "not an emergency" (by which I mean you are not gushing blood or whatever) you will go onto a very long waiting list.
2) Because of 1) the government got snappy and decided to set targets for waiting list times. Hospital managers came up with a novel solution: Secret waiting lists to get onto waiting lists. This meant they didn't have to improve care, but the governments figures improve. Everyone who matters is happy. In the NHS, patients don't matter.
3) Killer hospital acquired infections like MRSA are endemic in NHS hospitals.
And so on.
Further along, he hits on the double-bind they put you in: if a medication/treatment is deemed 'too expensive', you can- at least sometimes- pay for it yourself. BUT, if you do, anything they decide is 'related' to the condition, you have to pay for; because even though you still have to pay for NHS, you can't use it for that.
I can't find the link right now, but a few months ago there was a story from Britain about a woman with cancer who was basically told "It's not cost effective for us to pay for the medicine you need, so hurry up and die." And when she checked into paying for it herself she was told, as I recall "If you do, you get no further treatment under NHS for anything; but you still have to keep paying for it."
Yeah, having the government in complete charge of health care will be just so bloody wonderful...
I have to wonder, have any of the people just drooling at the thought of being in charge of this considered some of the fallout if it happens? Like what happens when someone is told their parent can't have treatment for 'cost-effective' reasons, or their kid can't have it, and the people involved decide to visit, with blood in their eye, the people in charge?
And I promise you, it WILL happen; if someone told you "Your child cannot receive the treatment that would save them because it's too expensive/whatever the excuse is and the board won't approve it", how would you take it?
